Nyx (Nyctophobia) is a shapeshifter, often appearing more horrible and powerful than she really is - and that, in some way, is the most terrible power of all. Roaming in the forests, Nyx's insatiable hunger lured many children deep into the wood, where their souls were consumed in madness. She is the personification of darkness, insanity, and the fluid/shapeshifting, and is a skinwalker type demon. She keeps one cat soul close by her side so she can shadow-jump, merging with the soul and easily hiding within trees, dark luminous eyes and an anglerfish like antennae-thing luring in potential victims like a will o' the wisp. She uses this form when she wants to move quickly. The form in which she sleeps, attacks, and feeds on souls is that of a hulking, brutish beast like a mutated version of the cat soul - a combination of feline and human. She wears a horned skull upon her head, possibly of one of her animal victims. She has been gaining confidence, even venturing into homes and backyards. Her rampage cannot be ended ... or can it? She has picked the wrong victim - when Apple Witherby, an apprentice detective, 's brother Johnson goes missing, Apple has a distinct and all-consuming motive now to investigate the Wood Murders ... and it's revenge.
