⊱┊Chapter 35 ⋆ Wandless Magic After a few days, we had the first dance practice. I got up to Amelia shaking me awake. "Ughh, what is it?" I groaned, rolling over. "Dancing," Amelia said. "And?" "We now have an excuse to wear our dresses." "Okay, cool." "Come on!" "Fine!" I got up reluctantly and got myself pretty so that I actually maybe had a chance of getting a date today. "Hey, can you help me wake Avery up?" Linda asked me. I nodded, stretching. I walked over to Avery, leaned down, and said, "Wake up or... uh.... I'll ki33 you!" Avery didn't wake up. I squinted at her, "Yeah, I'm not ki33ing her." I walked away and shrugged, "Well, I'm out of ideas." Linda went back to trying to shake her awake. "I have an idea to wake her up," Robin said, smugly. I narrowed my eyes at Robin, knowing of her... history with Avery. Robin grabbed two pillows, threw one to me, and she started hitting Avery with it. Being too tired to care if it was mean or not, I joined in. Avery started to wake up, "Ow! What time is it? 5:30 AM? BRO WHY ARE WE WAKING UP SO EARLY?!" I laughed, "Chill the beans, Avery. Put on your prettiest dress. Professor McGonagall and Flitwick are gonna teach us dancing. AGAIN. Like at the Valentine's Dance. Ugh." Avery crawled out of bed and I watched as Robin went and got Avery her dress. Robin threw it, and I screamed as I narrowly dodged it. However, it hit Avery square in the face. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. Avery looked up at Robin who was scowling, certainly different from her previous mood. "You're welcome! Hurry up!" Robin complained. I laughed at the scene. Amelia came out of the bathroom to the ridiculous predicament, "What in the world happened here?" Avery got up and said, "Nothing." She went to get dressed and we waited for her. After, Linda and Amelia practically dragged Avery to where we were going to practice our ✨ DaNcInG ✨. I got stuck behind them with Robin, so I tried to make small talk, even if we never really got along. "So................ you were friendlier this morning," I tested. "Whatever you want to think, mudblood," Robin scoffed. I opened my mouth to speak and closed my mouth again, not having an immediate witty response. Especially since I wasn't aware of what 'mudblood' meant. "Hmm." "What?" "I just don't understand why some people are so sour," I said. "There's no such thing as an unprovoked sourness," Robin rolled her eyes. I thought about it for a moment, "Why are you provoked?" Robin scoffed, "Well, wouldn't you like to know. You did basically the same thing to someone else." 'Wait, what did I do?' I thought. "I don't thi-" "Shut up, you should know exactly what you did to Blake Ossalt that makes the people who actually care about him mad at you," Robin said, rolling her eyes. I was speechless for a few moments before I spoke up. "I didn't ask to replace him, I was just supposed to fill in and then Henry just told me one day that I was replacing him," I explained. Robin rolled her eyes at me again. She seemed to enjoy doing it. "Well, your little friend took away the spot on the Quidditch team that should've been mine," Robin said. "Avery?" "Obviously." "And all because her brother is the captain," Robin complained. "Well, I don't know about that. I think it all depends on skill..." I trailed off as I made eye contact with Robin's frustrated eyes. "Sorry." We were silent for a while before I spoke up again, "You know if it makes you feel better I'll play Quidditch with you." Robin scoffed, "No way, you'd beat me." "So you admit I'm, good? At Quidditch?" I pointed out. Robin paused before snapping, "Shut up!" She sped up her pace to walk away from me. I kept at a decently slow pace although I was walking slowly to walk next to her before. As we arrived in the classroom for our dance class I heard Avery say something, though I didn't listen until Professor McGonagall addressed what she'd said. "THAT, Miss Markinson, is why we're here, to socialize. To find a dance partner. To have fun." Professor McGonagall said. I didn't know what Avery had said, but I assumed it was a question as to why we were here. "Well, what if we already have a dance partner?" Robin asked rudely, "I already have mine!" I sighed, seems like Robin's shields of snootiness had gone back up. "Same here!" Avery blurted. "Me too!" Linda said. "Also me!" Amelia shouted. Soon, almost everyone was shouting about how they already had a date. I slouched slightly, as I didn't have a date yet, and almost everyone else already seemed to. "I have a date!" "Ditto, dude!" "Oh yeah! Also here!" a voice I noticed as Jacob Jordan said. "Also me!" Lara Zabini screeched. "Same goes to me!" someone next to Lara said. "Yeah! That goes for me too!" "SILENCE! FIVE POINTS FROM GRYFFINDOR, HUFFLEPUFF, AND SLYTHERIN! TEN POINTS FROM RAVENCLAW!" Professor McGonagall yelled.
Ten points from Ravenclaw? All because a few more of us were bragging about having dates? I didn't even say anything, and I was getting punished! "Come on!" I yelled, "That's unfair! Totally unfair!" "Well, the Ravenclaws seem like they don't want to dance." Avery protested. It wasn't exactly true; I wanted to dance. I just didn't want a lesson. "Fine!" Professor McGonagall yelled, "A lesson it shall be." Everyone groaned. Well, not everyone, but the majority of the room. "We will learn to use magic WITHOUT a wand!" Professor McGonagall announced, "It will not be easy, nor powerful, but it will come in handy." "Headmistress," Lara blurted, "I already know how to use magic without a wand, let me demonstrate." Lara moved her hand around, and suddenly, a lightning bolt came down crashing from the ceiling onto the ground in front of everyone. 'There's no way that was real,' I thought. "Very well, Miss Zabini... but when I mean magic without wand, I didn't expect so... MUCH..." Professor McGonagall's gaze had harsh suspicion, "You also seem so... under control... because usually the magic is made with strong emotions. Not to mention it's not very strong. But... you could help teach." "Thank you, Headmistress," Lara said in a honey-sweet tone, "But I only have faith in a few people. A few people, well, not only do I not have faith, but I am concerned on their behavior and, of course, how they would look for their houses." Lara glared at our group of Ravenclaws. Of course she did. The group seemed to tense. Robin seemed unafraid of Lara and glared right back. I wondered if something had happened between the two of them. Suddenly, Avery sneezed. “Ah gross! You have germs!” Lara shrieked, backing away. I nearly laughed, especially since Lara wasn't even near Avery. “Oh dear!” Professor McGonagall exclaimed, “Miss Markinson, you better go to your dorm. You look sick. I shall excuse you from your classes, but join once you feel better.” “Yes, Headmistress,” Avery responded. 'She just sneezed, but okay,' I thought. Avery tripped over her dress walking out, and although it was probably embarrassing for her, I nearly laughed; I couldn't help it. Plus, she was one of my best friends, and I was allowed to nearly laugh and catch myself before doing so. Linda volunteered to walk Avery back and went with her. After a little bit more of a lesson, we went to the Great Hall for breakfast. Lara was, of course, showing off. She acted as though she had learned today -- like a beginner's luck from a lesson -- what seemed to be something that would need years of practice. "Ugh! I can't take this anymore! I'm eating in the common room," Amelia said. I sighed, "I'll come with you on that." I followed Amelia out of the Great Hall, and I ended up running into Avery and Linda. "Guess what," I said, unenthusiastically and honestly really annoyed. "Lara is showing off her lightning! It's so annoying and... unrealistic!" Amelia sighed. "How'd she even do such 'powerful' stuff?" I asked rhetorically and sarcastically. Avery and Linda peeked into the Great Hall for a moment. Avery seemed to be thinking after. "Well, enjoy breakfast. Amelia and I are going back to the dorm room to change out of our dresses," I said. "I wanna stay in my dress, I just need to finish eating in the common room," Amelia said. "You can't stay in your dress for classes," I said. Amelia's face fell, "Awwwwwwww." Paige walked out of the Great Hall. "So, um, that Slytherin girl, I'm almost positive she's lying about her lightning magic," Paige said. "There's no way someone her age should know that sort of magic." Professor Flitwick turned the corner and saw all of us. "What are you all doing here?" he asked. "Half of us were going back to our common room and then Avery and Linda were probably just about to grab breakfast and we just kinda, ran into each other and started talking," I explained. Professor Flitwick sighed, "Get going now then, I don't want to have to take more points from my own house." "Of course, Professor," I smiled. Paige, Amelia, and I took off to the common room and dorm rooms. ˚ ༘ ·˚ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ ˑ˚₊˚· ༘˚ ⊱┊Next ⋆ https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1191632673/ ⊱┊Previous ⋆ https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1104396125/ ⊱┊First ⋆ https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/956692596 ˚ ༘ ·˚ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ ⊱┊Credits ⋆ Bing Image Creator ⋆ https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/29103418/ ˚ ༘ ·˚ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ ⊱┊Notes ⋆ Long ash chapter. ˚ ༘ ·˚ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ ˑ˚₊˚· ༘˚
