⊱┊Chapter 36 ⋆ The Request As we made our way down the halls, we decided to continue acknowledging the Lara situation. "So, what makes you say that Lara's magic lightning is for sure fake?" I asked. "I, well, my parents are both highly respected and powerful Aurors, so I've been studying magic for my entire life, as long as I can, really," Paige said. "I can recognize that it doesn't seem like it's real. Also, she's a bully, and if it were real, I'm sure she would've used those powers on a student. Unless she is afraid of getting caught and ruining her reputation with the teachers." "So how are we going to bust her?" I asked. "W-we?" Paige stuttered, flushing. "Well, yeah, you have the best speculation -- I think that's the word -- of all of us," I said. "U-um, well, I wasn't really thinking we could without gathering more evidence, so I suppose we could just wait to see how things play out," Paige said. I sighed, "I don't think I'm patient enough for that." "I'm not patient enough for taking my dress off, so maybe I should just... keep it on," Amelia said, the last part sounding more like a question than a statement. I looked at Amelia with what I assumed was a you're-not-getting-out-of-changing look. I couldn't really see my face, but that was what I was going for. Amelia sighed and slumped her shoulders. After a little while of walking in silence, I finally speak, "Do you think we could stage something to catch her confession and record it?" "Technology doesn't work around Hogwarts," Paige said. "Oh." There was silence before we got to the door of the Ravenclaw Commons. I knocked on the door, and the eagle started to speak. "What has an eye, but cannot see?" the eagle, riddled. I was confused, "Wut-" "Oh! I've gotten this one before, it's a needle," Amelia said. The door opened and we started to walk in. "Since when do needles have eyes?" I asked. "Since forever, it's the little part that you put the string through," Amelia said. "Oh, I didn't know that was called the eye, I don't really study needle anatomy," I shrugged. We went to our dorms. Paige's dorm was farther up the tower, so she left us at ours. Amelia and I got changed into our robes, with much pouting coming from Amelia as we did, and refreshed ourselves before leaving the dorm. Paige was already waiting for us downstairs. As we walked back to the Great Hall, I questioned, "Wait, where'd our food that we mentioned we were going to finish in our dorms last chapter go?" "The writer got lazy too explain where our food went," Amelia shrugged. "What are you guys talking about?" Paige asked. There was an awkward silence before I said, "I honestly don't know." When we arrived back at the Great Hall everyone had already started leaving for classes. Amelia sighed. We started to walk with the crowd to our classes. "Adalaide!" a familiar voice called from behind me. "NATHANIEL DON'T YOU DARE!" I turned around to see Nathaniel running up to me and Peter chasing him. Nathaniel got down on one knee and I could feel myself start to flush, or was I blushing? I just felt heat raise to my face. "Adalaide Riverly, will you... be my date to the dance?" Nathaniel asked, presenting me with his hand to take. I stared at him for a moment, feeling myself blushing. I didn't even realize it, but I just managed to squeak out a small response. "Yes," I said. "Wha-" Peter said, finally having had caught up. "I told you, you're not the only boy she'd say yes to," Nathaniel pointed out as he got up. "So, this was a dare to play with her feelings, huh?" Paige said, sourly. "But even more important are you still going to be her date," Amelia asked, eagerly. Nathaniel shrugged and smiled warmly, "If she's fine with it." I don't think I'd had consciousness after saying yes. I nodded, meeting his eyes for only a moment, just to hold the moment, and regret it. They were annoyingly gorgeous, his eyes. "Guess I'll be seeing you at the dance then," Nathaniel said, smiling. I managed to break eye contact for just a moment, to be snapped back into reality by Peter's disappointed look that flickered across his face. "Well, I'll see you later then," Peter said. "NO! You know what. Peter you're going to be my date," Paige exclaimed. "What?!" Peter t'was shooketh. "You heard me," Paige said. "No backing out." "Uh... Okay?" Peter look around awkwardly. Nathaniel smirked slightly at the scene. As we walked away, I heard Nathaniel say to Peter, "Look, you got a date either way, even if it wasn't the girl you wantd to expect to go with." "THAT WAS AMAZING! I wish Quill'd been bold and romantic like that! You're so lucky Adalaide!" Amelia exclaimed. "AND PAIGE! YOU WERE AWESOME! I didn't even think you liked Peter." "I don't," Paige whispered. "I don't know why the heck I did that."
