Each player has their username put into a list, which gives it a serial code. As any user who is not logged in on scratch is defaulted to ' ', it means data will be shared across many ' ' accounts. To prevent this, only users with a proper, scratch-verified username are added to this list. The save works by designating a space in a save code for the player, using the serial number. So this is why all players must be logged in to a scratch account to save their progress.
