The Inkling turns around, adjusting her parasol, so I can see her face properly. I swear I've seen her before, but where but where but where? She smiles. “Hey. You showed up!” What? Has she been waiting for me? How did she know that I'd come down here? Has she been watching me? …That's not creepy at all. The Inkling clears her throat. "As soon as I saw you wandering aimlessly around the square, I knew you were the one." I look at her with alarm. Exactly why has she been watching me? For how long? THE ONE WHAT??? "I'm Marie. I know you're probably a bit starstruck, but I need you to get over it." I dunno about starstruck, but I'm sure as heck concerned - wait, Marie? I think I've heard that name before… As if reading my thoughts, she continues, "Yes, I'm THAT Marie. You know, from the Squid Sisters?" Apparently my face must be flashing bright neon signs about how confused I am right now, 'cause she looks shocked. "You've never heard of me? For eel?" No, lady, I've never heard of you, or your stalker-ish ways. Marie frowns with disappointment that I don't recognize her (apparently) famous face. And after taking a moment to recover, she opens her mouth to continue blabbering. "Well, you obviously aren't very cultured, but you'll have to do." …I'm starting to regret coming down here. "See, I've got a little… thing I need help with." I'm sure you do. "By now you've heard that the Great Zapfish that powers Inkopolis Square is missing. Well it's not just missing, it's been squidnapped by the Octarian menace!" Aaaand now she's talking nonsense. But I am a bit curious. What's an Octarian? "How does she know this?, you're thinking. Well-" I'm not. She frowns …did I say that out loud? "You're not what?" I decide to be wise for once in my life, and stay silent. She looks daggers at me, daring me to interrupt her (clearly scripted) monologue again. When I don't, she slowly continues. "Well, on the surface, I may look like an absurdly talented pop-star-" I cough, but artfully disguise it as an innocent sneeze. "-But in truth, I'm Agent 2 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, a secret society of heros who save the world from Octarians!" That word Octarian again. What does it mean??? "Now, I've been trying to keep an eye on the Octarians in my down time, but I'm a busy girl." I'm trying to make up a believable excuse about why I couldn't possibly stay a moment longer and listen to this delightful talk, ever so sorry, when Marie whispers something to herself. It sounded like "If only Callie was around to lend a hand…" … I'm not sure who Callie is, (and I'm afraid to ask), but Marie rights herself with a cough. "I need YOU to get the Great Zapfish back from those slimy Octarians! What do you say? Are you in? Will you accept the position of Agent 4 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon?" She looks at me expectantly and hautily, but… She also looks… sad. And she's obviously trying to hide it. We lock eyes, and she looks away. And maybe it's because I can relate to having no one to talk to, maybe it's because I've got nothing better to do… but I decide to humor her. I open my mouth before I can talk myself out of it. "Sure."
