Chapter six-Gerudo town Zelda was quite shocked when Link re-appeared from the changing room at Kara Kara Bazzar wearing such…interesting garments. He looked like a girl, and Zelda was equally parts disturbed and intrigued. “You seriously have to wear that just to get in?” Zelda asked, the second he appeared in the glittery green armor. She almost hadn’t noticed him, dressed like…that. “It’s a village of all women. They’d kill me before they’d let me go in there.” Link responded, adjusting his veil. “Does the chief even know you go in there all the time?” “Yeah. She knows I’m a guy, but she still doesn’t want there to technically be a dude in the village.” He replied casually, so casual that Zelda honestly disliked it. She sighed and looked away, though it wasn’t really because she was irritated or annoyed or upset; it was because he had no right looking so good in women’s clothing. They then wandered the streets for awhile, meeting the chief, shopping. Zelda got a massage while Link fed fruit to the cheif’s sand seal, and soon the hot evening sun grew too hot and the two decided it was time for a break. Link led her up onto the Gerudo walls, to a high point where he often enjoyed sitting on hot days like that. “You’re surprisingly confident in that outfit,” Zelda commented as Link pulled out some melons from his bag. “Why wouldn’t I be?” He asked. “It’s just clothes.” Zelda shrugged. “Sure. Just clothes.” Then, quieter, “that’s why half the town has been staring.” “Jealous?” “Excuse me?!” She choked. “It’s just…” Link paused, looking unsure of his words and also a bit disappointed as he realized he couldn’t eat his melon cause it’d mean taking off his veil which he couldn’t do. “You’ve been looking at me all day like you feel like you shouldn’t look at me but want to at the same time. I mean, if I’m too distracting I could wait outside, I suppose.” “No! It’s not like-it’s not like that,” Zelda insisted, nervously wringing her fingers. “I just…honestly, while being trapped in Hyrule castle for the past one hundred years the last thing I expected when I was back was to sneak into Gerudo town with my knight dressed in women’s clothing. It’s…odd.” She murmured. “Fair,” Link replied, offering her the melon he couldn’t eat. She rejected it, feeling bad eating in front of him. “Though honestly, it’s funny. I look great as both man and woman.” “What the heck do you mean?” Zelda hissed. “Not to sound selfish, but I think I’m pretty handsome. I mean, the number of girls I’ve encountered on my journeys who are…interested in me is…interesting.” Zelda sighed, a blush rising g up her face because he was correct, he was quite handsome, but also because…she was jealous. Those girls didnt know anything about Link; they didn’t save him by having him taken to the shrine of resurrection to save him, then going to contain Gannon. What right did they have to flirt with him? “Oh, shut up.” She told him. “Make me.” He retorted. And so she did. She permanently remembered the moment as a stupid moment of foolishness, and Link just began to remember it as the best day of his life. Because in the means of shutting him up Zelda did the u thinkable; she leaned over and kissed him. And then they sat there, on their little perch, watching the sunset with her head on his shoulder and his head resting on hers. “Are you ready to go, princess?” He asked once the sun was down, considering how important sleep was to her. “…don’t call me princess,” She asked. “Please. I’m not really a princess, not anymore. I’m me. Just like you’re you.” “Of course, Zelda.” He replied gently, sweetly. In that moment, he decided; Mipha wouldn’t want him to hold himself back because of what once was a hundred years ago. She’d want him to keep moving forward. With Zelda. With her.
