20 Questions for Writers! (To Make You Think Hard) 1. Q: What got you interested in writing? A: I was homeschooled as a kid, and I had to write a lot in Language Arts. I loved it and that passion has stuck with me! 2. Q: Did you always like writing? A: Pretty much! 3: Q: What is the story that has just been sitting around in your brain, waiting to come to life? Is it just a vague idea that catches your heart, or is it already an elaborate story? A: I have a lot of little ideas, just one part of a plot or a general idea. The one I really think I should focus on is an enemies to lovers, but it’s one sided, because the guy is in love with a different girl mwahahaha 4. Q: What makes a story catch your heart? A: Emotional depth I relate to…or a cute relationship. 5. Q: Do you think that there's a pattern that all good stories follow, or are they all different? A: A good plot that follows the whole intro, rising action, climax, resolution, etc (obviously…) 6. Q: Did you ever cry over your own writing? Laugh over it? Shiver over it? A: I cringe at my old journals, and I crack up every time I reread scenes I wrote with a character I came up with. He’s crazy… 7. Q: What do you despise in stories? A: When you think it’ll be a love story, but then the guy is the bad guy, but it doesn’t end with enemies to lovers! 8. Q: What makes a story bad (in your opinion)? A: Excessive repetition, unclear or dragged out plots/scenes, lack of emotional depth 9. Q: Which is more important in a story: emotional depth, or an interesting plot? A: It depends on the message you wish to send. Honestly, go for both. I think the best books have a well thought out plot, with deep conversations and connections between characters. 10. Q: Is there a specific thing your stories tend to center around? (Ex: setting, personality of character, genre, ect.) A: I used to write a lot of fantasy, most commonly from teen girls perspectives. Usually they had secret powers. Now, I write a lot of teenage characters with dark pasts falling in love hehe! 11. Q: Do you plan to become an author someday? A: honestly, no 12. Q: If so, how do you think authors can influence the world for good by their writing? A: I do hope to be a songwriter, which is similar. I hope to connect others through music and lyrics I write. Yes, I know, there will be haters. But, I will set a good examples in hope to better our world. 13. Q: What are your favorite themes (morals or messages) in stories? A: “Together, we are strong. When united, we can do anything.” 14. Q: What are the cliches you hate the most? A: Happily ever after! 15. Q: Is there a way to make those cliches not so bad? Do you think you could do it if you set out to try? A: Nothing is perfect for very long. Characters don’t just have one hard thing happen and then smooth sailing for the rest of eternity! To fix it? JUST DON’T ADD THE SAYING “HAPPILY EVER AFTER” to the end of the story!!! 16. Q: What is the genre you hate the most? A: Nonfiction and historical fiction. 17. Q: What if you tried to write it? What would happen? A: Honestly, I’m not bad at writing these. My history teacher was always impressed when I submitted my historical fiction papers. I can do it, I just prefer not to. 18. Q: What makes a character lovable? A: A fun personality or a dark past specifically to trigger empathy in the audience. 19. Q: Is it possible for a non-lovable character to make you care deeply about them? A: If you can trigger an empathetic response towards the “bad guy,” it might tear the audience between hating them, sympathizing for them, or even getting mad at themselves for hating or sympathizing. 20. Q: How can you make your story touch your reader and impact their life? A: Write what you know! Make a character face and successfully overcome real-world challenges that are meant to inspire the audience.
