Why do people follow TST? 5. FAQ ♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤ What is TST? ♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤~♤ TST stands for The Satanic Temple, and is an atheistic religious organization. It is not to be confused with Church of Satan, which follows LaVeyan satanism, different from TST satanism. All TST members follow the 7 tenets. ♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡ What are the 7 Tenets? ♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡ The 7 tenets are the backbone of TST beliefs, similar to the 10 commandments in Judaism and Christianity, or the 5 pillars of Islam in their importance. They are as follows (with an abridged version in parentheses): 1.One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason. (Be nice to animals in accordance with what seems reasonable.) 2.The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions. (Justice is hard to obtain, and trying to obtain it should go before laws and the like.) 3.One's body is inviolable, subject to one's own will alone. (No one can tell you what to do. Your body, your choice.) 4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own. (Respect other's opinions, taking other's rights away is morally wrong.) 5. Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs. (Your beliefs should fit facts. Do not mess with facts to make yourself look correct.) 6.People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused. (Everyone messes up. Just do your best to fix it.) 7. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word. (The tenets are just guidelines. Being a good person should go before what you see or hear.) ◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇ How do TST members worship? ◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇~◇ TST members are generally atheistic. Contrary to popular belief, TST does NOT believe in Satan as a figure, in contrast to LaVeyan satanism. We believe in Satan as a symbol. We "worship" by following all tenets, and we organize peaceful protests when something is happening that violates a tenet. ♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~ Why do people follow TST? ~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧~♧ I cannot speak for all members of TST, but I can say that I joined because the 7 tenets aligned with my beliefs. Instead of fitting my beliefs to fit my religion (Judaism, the one I was born into) I changed my religion to fit my beliefs. I joined because I found a place that fit me- where I felt welcomed. ☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~ FAQ ☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~ Q: Do you worship Satan? A: No. He is a symbol.
