HYDNORA. {ALLIES}- Political & Economic * Aleuria * Marillya * Opreia {NEUTRALS} * Stellius {ENEMIES} (hyd-n*oar*-uh) 1- What species is your delegate? My delegate shares the species of most Hydnorans, the species hydnum. It is named after the fungal genus (thus why the name was coined, and the species has commonly grown to be known under this name for its genetic makeup of plant, fungal, and humanoid characteristics. These characteristics can vary from person to person. It is the official and accepted name by hydna as well as those from other planets.) A way to refer to a Hydnoran who is Hydnum, or something associated with Hydnas, is either: Singular ( "(X) is Hydnum.) Plural ( "Yes, she and her family are hydna, but they were born on another planet." ) 2- What is your delegate's home planet like? There are a variety of landscapes to be found across Hydnora, which is a water planet- dense forests, meadow stretching hundreds of miles into rocky peaks where many medicinal plants and minerals are found- winding rivers and tectonic plates pass through the globe to create interesting mountain ranges and formed a variety of minerals and rock types over many millennia. In many "steppe" regions- dry meadows or grasslands- it has a typically temperate climate. Its two extremes are filled with forests, where its central regions are typically made up of this climate. The forest climates may range from a deciduous climate to temperate rainforest. The climate is typically mild, growing cold in the winters. It is only arid in small regions of grassland. 3- What does your delegate look like? My delegate is Hydnum, with a lesser degree of fungal genetics. She is humanoid with a large, yellow flower naturally growing just on the side of her face, though it is not the material of flower and rather skin. Hydnum did not always show these genes and rather it became a part of the species after a vast period of newly mutated plants forming disease altering their genetic makeup and later characteristics over time. This can either be harmful or non-harmful/symbiotic/advantageous to their health and bodily systems, and Hydnora is currently finding innovations to negate harm whilst keeping the natural genetic makeup of their population, as it is now a part of them and many characteristics are quite advantageous. For example, hydna's skin can change textures and can become ridge-like ("teeth"), which helps them blend into surroundings and climb, among other activities. 4- How long does your species live? Hydna may live naturally for up to two centuries depending on the state of/effects their fungal and plant characteristics. However, the mortality rate varies in Hydnora due to many different strains of plant borne viruses appearing in most areas. 5- What values does your planet adhere to? The Hydnoran people feel a deep connection and responsibility to help preserve and care for one another and the land around them- including other planets than their own, as they are also a part of this world, and their land. Thus, they are usually advocating for peace on most fronts, as they have experienced many hardships and difficulties themselves and would rather avoid dark days. In terms of what areas they use these values in while advancing and innovating in their own planet, medicine is the largest, as well as biological research and environmental sciences/ resources. However, these values have only appeared as a collective again in recent years, as the planet was shaken during the most deadly period of disease, which turned many against one another. They are trying to leave these areas of thought and systems today. 6- An old social/governmental hierarchy was established based on parasitic, plant-borne disease infiltrating into the shared plant genetics of individuals. It caused the deaths of so many, but many who may have been saved or cured from worse issues (disease, infection spreading until the brain) were discarded due to physical signs of reactions commonly associated with the disease. As a result, individuals who didn't have as many physical plant characteristics were commonly viewed to be healthy and/or mildly affected by plant-borne disease or parasites eating on their flowers, leaves, etc. They were often left in the moreso extreme(s) climates of the grasslands, and closed-off quarantine environments and old cities were established away from these areas. 7- The environment affects culture in daily life! The people consider themselves a part of its natural environment as well, so the culture is very oriented towards protecting it. Again, this wasn't always the case, and it has gone through dark periods of trying to eradicate its environment. There was mass famine due to scares about eating certain plants and how hydnas would react to them, but its cuisine and food culture has made a comeback in recent centuries. It is rooted in history, and nature plays a part in the culture and lives of all.
