Lore: Onyx is trying to explain his possession of Falcore and how it caused him to do things he would of never thought to do. Theodore obviously doesn't believe him, mainly because she will never forget what he did to Thimberlin and how Gizmo was affected by it understandably so. The lyrics line up with the lore pretty well too: "Trying to escape from this thing that I fear.": Onyx's knowledge of Falcores overwhelming presence in his mind. "I can see the beast getting close Surrounded by ghosts in a cloud of smoke.": Onyx also referring to Falcore. "The smoke reeks of failure, I don't want to fail.": Onyx's fear of what would happen if he betrayed Falcore.
