Press space for variables to change your microphone sensitivity, volume or gain in amplitude (to increase in loudness of white noise in relation to background noise). Mode 0 is default mode, mode 1 changes the volume of the white noise in relation to your background noise.
White noise is an incredibly useful resource, as it helps block exterior sound distractions, encourage deep sleep, and reduce tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Like white light is an aggregate of colors, white noise is an all-encompassing mix of all sound frequencies, helping you focus on what you want to do, when you want to do it. :)
