i wrote this up in like 5 min because i dont have anyone to rant to okay so i don't know if anyone will see this or if anyone even knows what this series is, but i just finished it (the main series) and OH BOY- SPOILERS AHEAD ABOUT THE LAST BOOK (the lost stories) - ok so rangers form a very special bond with their horses, and can even talk to them, in a sense. since the VERY FIRST book, Will has been with his horse Tug. and then on the last book, JOHN FLANAGAN, THE EVIL EVIL AUTHOR WAS LIKE "yk what, lets have him get attacked by a WOLF-" he doesn't die but his shoulder is badly injured and he's left with a limp, and they say hes gonna have it for the rest of his life. THEN CROWLEY AND THE HORSE BREEDER GUY SPRINGS THE FACT THAT when a ranger horse has to be retired, they just REPLACE THEM WITH BASICALLY A CLONE BREEDED FROM THE HORSES GRANDPARENTS OR SOMETHING, CHANGE THE NAME OF THE ORIGINAL HORSE, AND GIVE THE REGULAR NAME TO THE NEW ONE.. and like i get that the horse would have to retire at some point but you don't need to COMPLETELY REPLACE HIM with a CLONE and like when he rode off on FAKE tug, will was like "wow you're a lot like tug," and the horse goes "I AM TUG" LIKE OHDFUHSDKLJFLHS NO YOURE NOT AND fake tug got to be BEST HORSE AT WILLS WEDDING AND WILL SAYS SOMETHING AND IS LIKE "in all the years ive known tug," talking about FAKE TUG and NO YOUVE KNOWN HIM FOR DAYS DAYYSSS IMPOSTER *ehem* apologies.
for anyone who hasn't read the book, i'd definitely recommend: Basically, it centers around the concept of Rangers. Set in medieval times, Rangers are figures of power, answerable only to the King. They have immense skill with a longbow, and excel in matters of concealed movement and staying hidden. Because of their skill sets, many are wary of Rangers. The first book opens with Will, an orphan living as a Ward in castle Redmont. The only thing he knew about his parents was an unsigned note saying "His father was a hero. His mother died in childbirth. His name is Will." at the age of 15-16, wards in the castle could choose somewhere to serve an apprenticeship. He always wanted to attend the battleschool and become a warrior, like he believed his father had. But he was regarded as too small and weak, and thus rejected. Then, the legendary Ranger Halt of Redmont fief approached the baron with a note about Will, though didn't tell Will the contents. Will, determined to find out what it was, scaled the tower to the Baron's quarters and found the note; 'i would like will to be my apprentice.' the books are best read with a british accent tbh.. don't ask me why they just are 11 books in the main series, and multiple other series springing off of it
