Her ears rung, like someone had planted a bell tower in them. And grass scratched at her back, causing her to be extremely itchy. It was quite an uncomfortable situation in general. It was especially strange that she didn't remember going to sleep on grass. She slowly sat up, the ringing in her ears dying down. It was replaced with the scream of cicadas and the song of at least seven different birds all with different pitches. To be honest, it gave her a bit of a headache. And because of the headache (or the headache was because of this) she couldn't remember anything but her name. It had become a more uncomfortable situation. "Where is this place..?" She mumbled as she stood. She didn't see anyone else in the clearing, and whether that was a blessing or a curse she wasn't sure. Looking up and shielding here eyes from the sun, she noticed something. A beam. A white beam, made of a material she didn't recognize. The beams connected. They had glass panels in them. The pattern stretched on until it presumably hit the ground. This wasn't an ordinary rainforest, that was for sure. But the abnormality piqued Brooke's interest. "Hello?" She called, only to be met with the shriek of a cicada. She had come to the conclusion that nobody was with her in this rainforest dome. She brushed off her pants, realizing she was wearing some sort of uniform. It was surprisingly comfortable for a uniform. A sound that didn't sound like an animal echoed through the forest. Brooke started to panic, what was the noise, and was it going to kill her? The scratchy sound rung out again, but this time she could follow it. It was coming from her left, where a speaker was nailed to one of the trees. Not very professionally though, it looked like it would fall down it anyone breathed near it. All the animals went silent. To be honest, she hadn't seen any animals, but she had hoped that they would show up. As she attempted to gaslight herself into believing that the animals were just afraid (and failing to do so), a voice erupted from the speaker this time. It was scratchy, but easy enough to understand. "Uh, testing? How do these things work? I probably should have figured that out sooner, but its too- oh? Uh-" A sound like the rustling of papers could be heard. "Welcome to Biosphere Three! In this dome there are five biomes, Jungle, Beach, mountain, forest, and meadow! please enjoy your stay.. as it may last a while.." The speaker stuttered to a stop. "Well great." Brooke muttered. "Guess I'm not leaving any time soon. At least I'm welcome." She smiled a bit at her own joke. Her smile quickly disappeared as she saw a bush move out of the corner if her eye. It was big enough that it could hold someone who was about Brooke's age (of which she was not aware). It jostled again, a small *Ouch* coming with it. "Hello..?" She asked, trying to stop the nervousness in her voice. A girl who looked about thirteen tumbled out of the bush, and Brooke let out a sigh of relief. Though she had kind of hoped it was an animal. A few thorns were poking the girl, and she seemed to be quite uncomfortable. "Ughh.." She groaned as she stood up. "I guess I'm less sneaky than I thought I was." She smiled, but her smile dwindled as she pulled at a few thorns. The only noise was the girl's little gasps as she took them out, confirming Brooke's suspicion that the animal calls was coming out of the speaker. Her hair was a chocolate brown color, and her eyes the same. She wore a uniform exactly like Brooke's, but her hair was in a braid. "I- I'm Amelia.." She said as she stood, suddenly becoming more shy. She was done with the thorns, and was now studying Brooke. "I'm Brooke! I would say nice to meet you, but its not exactly 'nice' here." Amelia's mouth twitched upwards. "Yeah.." She replied quietly. Her voice was soft, with an accent Brooke recognized as British. She had a graceful demeanor, and Brooke felt calm just being around her. "Would you.. Maybe.. Like to team? Not to fight anyone or anything! Just to- like- share a home base…" Amelia stuttered, awkwardly looking down at her feet. "Sure! If you're good with staying here to build, we could start getting some wood. It's more concealed in the rainforest if there's any animals, though I doubt there are. It'll make me feel better at least. By the way.." *Click*
I'm so excited about posting this lol- Btw this was written a month ago so its a bit old :P About a year ago I learned about Biosphere 2, which was an experiment done in 1991, trying to replicate earth (Biosphere one). That experiment.. Failed to say the least. So, I thought, instead of doing it with adults, why don't I write it but with a bunch of children!! Also I wanted to make it an audiobook cause why not- Uh, so the audiobook auditions came, and then summer camp happened, I cancelled it last second because I wasn't interested anymore, and it was a whole thing. Anyway, I'm back at it again a year later with more experience and some plot and name changes! Name changes for characters: Kyla - Brooke Jane - Amelia Reese - Reese Lucas - E̹͍̭̪͢͢r̷̢̻̪̹̪̔ͣ́͛̎r̛̰͕͓̤ͪ̀͘̕ͅõ̝̠̔r̡̯̣̉ͫ Audrey - Aubree Also please look up stuff about Biosphere 2 my explanation was terrible- :']
