A couple of weeks ago, I was driving around town with my mom to practice, and she started telling me about what her life used to be like here (her hometown). A lot of it was stuff I didn’t know about before, and honestly, it was really sad yet fascinating to hear the differences between her home and what it is today. When I got home, I was finally feeling kind of inspired to write again, I subsequently began this story. To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure how to write it. I’m still not sure if I’ve captured everything the way I wanted to (or if it’s even very accurate — which it probably isn’t). But, still, I’ve been trying to write something with more plot lately, and this was something that, after hearing her story, made me FEEL. Like always, when you hear something like that, you just have to write it. Or I do, anyway. So here’s my best approximation of the singular town but two very different homes my mom and I have grown up with. She lived here until college. I’ve visited almost every year since I was born. All names of people, towns, streets, etc. have been changed for privacy reasons, but I did my best to keep the essence of this story the same. Thank you all for reading <3 ~ Word count: 2,188 words ~ Notes: • I really hope this thumbnail actually worked, sobbing- If not, I’ll change it next month when I’m on my laptop. But still, it’ll be a little while, haha. • I tried my best to make sure these were all in order (because Scratch kept mixing them up), but if they’re not, please let me know so that I can fix it! Same goes for any other issues. • This is genuinely so much easier to format and whatever when you’re on a laptop… ~ Credits: • Canva for the design stuff • My mom and grandparents for telling me these stories, all of whom did not know I was going to turn them into my own story (sorry) • Uhhh, I wrote this, I guess?
