Carolina conures are an extinct species of, well, conure closely related to sun and jenday conures. They once inhabited much of the Eastern United States before they were hunted to extinction by humans. They used to be one of the most common parrots in North America, ranging from massive flocks of hundreds to thousands, and fed in frenzies for fruit, seeds, and nuts. They were incredibly loud, gathering at crop fields, and were somewhat poisonous due to eating cocklebur, which led to their persecution and large-scale poaching.
