It was supposedly the calmest town in our state -- but I didn't believe a word when I looked into it. Everything seemed... abnormal, at least that's what I thought it seemed like. To keep my mind away from the trouble that was coming my way, I opened my book. Not just any book, it was the book my grandfather gave me before he moved to Japan. It was a beloved one about birds. It seems unreasonable to my family that I still had that book. But I still cherish it with all my love and care either way. "Francis! Dear, can you open the window? It's muggy in here." My mom says while fanning herself. I look up at the mirror inside the car and nod. As I roll down my window I can feel the breeze in the air and the smell of the beach is intriguing, as I have never been to the beach in all of the 14 years I have been alive. My family is more of a "stay inside" and "proper" family. That's what all my old friends used to say when they came over. My stomach growls with famine. As I reach for my backpack and take out a granola bar the car swerves. My head gets jerked to the side and my book goes flying. My younger brother practically fly's up into the air. For my mother, she yelps and grabs onto the window while trying to hold her hat to her head so it won't fly away. The car stops and i'm in shambles. My hair is everywhere and my book is open in the trunk. My mother's hat fell off and she scrambles to get it. And my dad looks like he's seen a ghost. "Carlos, what happened!" My mother yells while looking at my father who is taking the keys out of the car. "I - I don't know. There was some sort of a creature crossing the street, and I didn't want to hit it so I swerved around it. But I think we hit the guardrail." My father says, still shook. I slowly step outside the car with my younger brother Kevin and we peek to see what the so called "creature" looks like. My brother Kevin has fuzzy ginger hair, just like my dad and hazel eyes. I look at him as he ran towards the creature. "Kevin, get back here right now!" My mother shouts as he kept running to it. But she was to late, he's already turned the corner. "Francis, can you go get your brother while your dad and I try to see if the car is damaged badly?" My mom says to me. I nod and start sprinting across the road. But when I turned the corner. He was gone. (That was chapter 1 of my story Legend of the Bird. If you want me to write chapter 2 and post it, I can.)
