It was found in the Cloverly Formation, which is the home to many herbivores like Microvenator, Sauropelta, Sauroposeidon, Tenontosaurus, and Zephyrosaurus. Many predators that hunted it are the high-spined Acrocanthosaurus and a cousin to Velociraptor, Deinonychus. The holotype discovered is possibly not a fully grown individual and was believed to be a Zephyrosaurus. Aquilops is first seen in Jurassic World: Rebirth. Being one of the smaller herbivores in the franchise, it very much resembles its close relative, Microceratus. However, Aquilops possesses a different colour scheme, being orange with black stripes, and also has two horns; a nasal horn and a horn on the front of its beak. While no other Aquilops are seen in the franchise aside from Dolores, in Jurassic World: The Game, the Aquilops possess individual color schemes like jade-green with three different shades and they possess quills in back of their tails, these individuals are male. A young Aquilops, with a plant in its mouth, was seen standing on its hind legs, intently watching a young human girl. Its curious demeanor shifted to fright when the girl's older sister scared it away. However, the dinosaur soon returned, making snorting sounds as it cautiously approached the younger girl once more, eventually finding comfort and sleeping on her back.
