Hi there! I decided to try and teach scratchers about how elephants are endangered, since I know a lot about the topic. The music is African Safari by Derek Fiechter. All art belongs to me. Summary: Poachers are killing elephants for their ivory tusks, and now elephants are severely endangered. To prevent extinction, we can spread the news that you shouldn't buy ivory. In many regions of Africa, armed gangs of poachers kill elephants to sell their tusks. Elephant tusks are made up of ivory, which is a valuable material used to make statues and decorations. When a poacher kills an elephant, they don't use its entire body. They take the tusks (often through cruel methods) and leave the rest of the body to rot. Over-hunting has caused the elephant population to drop drastically. If the current kill rate continues, HALF of all the elephants in the world will have disappeared in nine years. But it's not too late. To save these majestic creatures, we need to change our cultural attitude when it comes to the ivory trade. As of June 3rd, 2016, it is illegal to sell ivory from one american state to another. But only four states have banned the sale of ivory in-state. If we can make ivory sale illegal in America, we will decrease the demand for ivory, therefore removing a poacher's desire to poach. We can work together to make this change before it's too late. Spread the news to everyone around you- ivory purchase is not okay.
