Old map that no one cared about - https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1182188157/ (This thing was amazing, and I specifically told in the desc how to use screenshots to show your changes in the map. Real shame no one cared) Le map of the Milky Way Galaxy of PU-NE, enjoy. (For those who lack depth perception, the map is meant to be semi-3D. Smaller stars are more down, larger ones more up. The 2D map is just to serve as a visual aid. For the moment it only shows stars owned by actual players to not be neutral, and that is because i'm too lazy to go through and add each A.I nation's systems.) Common sense: "Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is." - Indeed. You all must remember just how difficult and long space travel is even with FTL travel. Even at the fastest warp speeds, it could still take decades, if not centuries to fully cross the milky Way Galaxy alone. Portals and all that jazz is just as difficult at long distances, for you kinda have to send something to the other side to open the other end. Part of the reason I created this map was because the old one was too small, divided by uneven 50 light year hex grids that was wildly inaccurate. It was like a itch I could not scratch, and nobody seemed to understand how to use the semi-3D map engine and did not care for it. So let's try and be a bit accurate with the limitations of galactic travel? Just this once? Editor Controls: >E to open/close Editor, you must have a star selected first before opening in order to edit it. >Press space to go faster while in editor mode. >When spawning new stars, be sure to press the green flag to refresh the project in order to view new stars. >Having the word "RIFT"(in all caps) in the name automatically converts it to a rift thingy. >That's about it for now :/ (When editing to add your country/expansion, I highly suggest you recycle unused star systems by moving them, setting them to the desired owning nation, and renaming them instead of just adding new systems. This helps conserve clones and keeps us one step behind the infamous 300 clone limit)
Did I just recreate a parallax into a map for a roleplay? Yes. Yes I did. This is actually the 5th attempt of several concepts I desperately tested, from a ray casting 3D map, to a scrolling grid. Long story short, they all were gigantic fails that cost me over a week of time. So yez...... Special thanks to @CrystalKeeper7 for his(or her) universe parallax, which served as the base for the 3D-ish stars. Tho the code is no unrecognizable now that I got my hands on it(lol), and the 3D look is barely noticeable sadly. I added star-trek factions for 3 reasons. 1, I needed to quickly draw something to test the 2D map system. 2, several star-trek factions, like the Borg, Klingon's, ect. are well established as cannon in PU. 3, I just like the show..... Shut up...... Only key factions are labeled tho. Feel free to pick out unlabeled countries as your own just as with the earth map. (obviously you'll have to start as a whole different nation, and cant just claim big random isolated spots thousands of light years away as your colony. I'm running a lore focused high quality space rp here, not the HRE!) You may also add custom claims, but not too big please. Another thing to note, is because of the infamous scratch 300 clone limit and intense lag that comes with a bunch a clones, I can only show the most important star systems. But please note that they are not the only star-systems, and it is the responsibility of individual players to keep track of systems not shown. But this may change if I convert the clone-based engine to a pen based one, at the cost of picture quality, but able to display thousands of systems with ease. This also means in war, taking a enemy's systems shown on the map does not mean you captured all of their systems. (This map was possibly one of the single worst map making experiences I ever had lol.......) Note 2 Self: Add mobile controls........ Eventually...... P.S: create proper thumbnail
