My Demons was featured in Starset's debut album, Transmissions in 2014, along with a music video depicting fictional events taking place in the future, present, and past; the plot of the video was as such: an astronaut by the name of Thomas Bell attempted to send a message into the past, warning humanity of a dire fate in the year 2047, in the hopes of changing the course of history. The Message was unwittingly intercepted by SETI radio astronomer Stephen Browning in the year 2013, after increasing the bandwidth of his radio wave scanners, and also by Nikola Tesla in 1911, after performing an experiment with electricity. Both men immediately rushed to deliver their findings, yet Tesla was only met with scorn from his sponsor, who refused to fund his experiments any longer. As for the present, humanity has had The Message revealed to them through the music of Starset. Since then, followers of Starset have referred to themselves "Messengers."
