A new day. Seems like it would be nice, right? Wrong. I can’t walk without crutches because of a skateboard. It wasn’t even me on the skateboard. Someone wasn’t watching where they were going and rammed into me. I grabbed my crutches and made my way down the hall to the kitchen. My mom greeted me with a warm smile. “Good morning James!” I sat down and she put a plate of pancakes in front of me. Nothing on them. Just plain pancakes. “Thanks mom.” Instead of scarfing them down like usual, my brain thought it was a good idea to eat them slowly and cut them into small pieces. “Looks like someone finally got some manners.” She chuckled a little as she said this. “That’ll be nice for Emerson.” Wait, who the heck is Emerson? “Mom, who’s Emerson? And why is it good for them that I have manners?” She frowned. Uh oh did I say something wrong? “Emerson is my dad, James. Of course you wouldn’t remember him very much. You haven’t seen him since you were 3.” That explains it. “But why is it good for him that I ‘got manners’?” I was ready for any answer I was gonna get. “You're staying at his house for 2 months! I have a business trip up north in Maine.” I was not ready for that answer. “So I’m staying with someone I don’t know for 2 months? Sounds ‘fun’.” I used as much sarcasm as I could. I barely know this guy and she’s leaving me with him for 2 months. 2 entire months. I could be doing anything. And she picks that. “It’ll be fine. You’ll get to know him and his LGTV stuff and whatever he does these days.” She said this as if it was a good thing. But LGTV sounded fun. Maybe he has a big TV or something. But I have a week to prepare to stay at a complete rando’s house. Should be fine right? I hope so.
