Back in the stone age of games, you couldn’t DREAM of playing video games without a TV and power cable. Which is why it was a huge surprise when Nintendo revealed their Game Boy in 1989, releasing it on April 21st in Japan, and July 31st in North America. So today, we’ll be talking about the Game Boy, playable minor extraordinaire. First, the system itself has lots. Power switch, volume dial, contrast dial, accessory port, d-pad, 4 face buttons, and a screen. An interesting aspect of the power switch specifically is it pushes a piece of plastic into a cutout in the cartridge, so you can’t take the game out while the system is on. The biggest downside to the system is the screen. I think the green color has more charm than the boring GBA screen, but less charm than the GBC with more color. But it’s hard to see, REALLY hard to see. Overall, the system is awesome. We’ll be talking about the biggest games on the system next. First off, Tetris. It’s a game with a vertical play area that you drop things called Tetrimino, blocks with 4 pieces arranged in different ways. If a line of pieces is made, it gets cleared. The goal is to get as many points as possible. Amazing game. Next, the first Pokemon generation. Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. I don’t like these games. Next, Mario Land. Good game. Nothing to say. Overall, great system.
Nintendo. Oh, and Russia for making Tetris.
