“Bye James! Have a good time!” My mom went back to her car. I watched her drive away. A whole two months without her. This is gonna be *fun*. I froze as a hand went on my shoulder until I remembered Emerson was behind me. “You can’t do that to me! That scared the daylights out of me. I thought I was gonna die!” I expected to see this old figure but this man looked like he was barely out of his teenage years. “Woah, you're not as old as I thought you’d be. I expected my grandpa to be, like, 78 not 22.” “I’m 44 buddy. Th’names Emerson. Come inside. I don’t want to keep someone in a walking boot standing.” He started to walk towards the house. I decided to walk behind him. He grabbed my stuff from me and carried it down a hallway to my place I’d be staying. “So what’s your name? Emily never told me your name.” How did he not know the name of someone who would be staying in his house for 2 months? “My name is James. I’m 13.” “So my mom said something about LGTV stuff. You got a big TV or something?” He looked surprised and paused a bit before responding. “As a matter of fact I do have a big TV. Not massive but a little big. Come on.” He got up and went to his couch where he put on a TV show. I didn’t pay much attention because he put on something called “The Owl House” or something like that. I turned to the clock and saw it was 5:30PM. “Ah jeez it's already 5:30PM! Usually me and mom have dinner around now.” Not gonna lie I was getting pretty hungry. “I got it covered. I invited a friend over and they’re bringing stuff.” Friend and bring stuff usually don’t go in the same sentence and mean a good thing. This sets off the worried alarm. I waited for about another hour watching the thing Emerson put on until I heard the doorbell. “I got it. You stay sitting James. You shouldn’t be walking too much with the boot.” I watched Emerson get up and open the door. I saw someone with an extremely joyful expression walk in. “James, this is Fred.”
