hey guyss! ik im on haitus but this topic is rly important to bring attention 2 imo this project was originally about the use of ai in lore writing, but i expanded it to cover ai use in spop in general. please read it all since it’s pretty important. ! if this repeats stuff or sounds out of order it’s because i wrote most of these rants separately from each other on different days ! tw harsh opinions using ai for lore i have very mixed feelings about this topic, so i’m gonna just be super serious so i can make sense to people!! ever since the start of this year, with the eris arg and all, there has been rising popularity /demand for lore in spop groups. this is in theory a good thing, since it makes things more interesting for fans to theorize about the group. but it’s put pressure on company ceos to make lore, and if they aren’t writers, they start using chatgpt/ other generative ai’s to make lore. and this makes me upset. i’m not going to act like i’m not guilty of this. i’m good at coming up with a concept but bad at fleshing it out, so i’ll just have a conversation with chatgpt to help me fill plot holes. for my lore, (spoilers heheh) the main theme is identity, and my past personas and stuff, and chatgpt helped me craft it into a timeline and storyline that makes sense. but i was the one coming up with most major parts of the lore. my issue is when chatgpt is used to create the entire thing. if you look inside, you will find screenshots of a short conversation i had with chatgpt where i simply told it to make lore and it created a plot of lore that would easily pass in s-pop today. i could use that lore for a group and no one would bat an eye. (for the record, avaia member names are not animals and objects around my room, and there’s 7 of them. the lore is still in progress.) that’s what scares me. eris lore, i hope, is a product of eris members or just thea’s imagination. the mock documents in the arg are created by her, as far as i can guess (i haven’t really read them from that angle, so they might be ai and i just haven’t noticed - not accusing u thea!!) and it’s easily the best lore in the entire s-pop industry, fight me. another issue that i have is when a company will put out a clearly ai generated piece of text for their lore project and claim it’s written by the owner. this happened recently with a company and the lore was well received, with no one commenting on the person they claimed to have written it having a history of spelling and grammar issues on official company projects, while the grammar on this was perfect. just saying. when i was newer and trying to come up with lore i scrapped (very early on back when i was sunhee) i used chatgpt for a lot of it, and spent a long time on it. i know what ai generated lore looks like. i know the types of things ai writes. it kills me that people here are blind enough to not see the difference, and it kills me that it’s so normalized for real, human creativity to be tossed aside in favor of some ai generated garbage. if you can’t at the very least create a concept for your lore, don’t write it. spend that time you wasted talking to chatgpt learning how to make your own lore, and write your own lore projects so it isn’t just re_fix and eris with real lore anymore. why ai use can be helpful (with limits) for me personally, ai is oftentimes very helpful to me in spop when i’m trying to create something. i use it for the things i’m less good at, like filling plot holes and character naming. ive tried to use it for group names, but i’ve always ended up going with things i came up with myself. rossa, lazuli, stellify, & avaia? all a mix of me and pin doomscrolling. above all ai is most helpful in feedback on writing, since it’s main purpose is to write. i’ve done all of the above things, but always with my own creativity mixed in. when it’s just ai in a space meant to be for kids 8-16 to create and use their imaginations, it begins to go against what scr (and spop) is all about. kid creativity. why ai use is harmful if you’re not amish (which i assume you’re not if you’re reading this), then by now you’ve heard and most likely used generative ai before. you probably have a chatgpt account, and all that. (my dad paid for chatgpt+ which i’d like 2 add is a decision of his i don’t agree with). generative ai can be used to summarize text, to help you polish a code, and to just chat with. but it can also be used to generate ai “art,” write songs (which trust me, are getting better by the day. ive asked chatgpt to help me with inspo a few times), and even create music. all of this are things that people work hard to become better at, and as a songwriter/ rookie producer (as well as a former artist), it’s truly insulting that something that’s not a real person can create in seconds what takes me hours to make, and have it get called “art.” it really is like a slap in the face. cont in notes n credits
continued from above it doesn’t make art accessible, art is accessible (not all forms are accessible to everyone but i hope u get the point) to everyone. dragging a stick through the sand is art. people saying they “can’t draw/write/produce” so they use ai? practice. “it takes too long” then you clearly don’t enjoy making art, so just appreciate the hard work of others! gasps. i don’t have the motivation to do what lea does with the weekly reports, so i just enjoy it when she does them. i don’t feed stuff that happened this week to ai and have it make it into a report so i don’t have to write anything (bad example but whatever). instead of using ai to imitate other people’s creativity, do the things you’re good at, and if you really want to, LEARN. it’s not that hard. other ways ai has been used in spop recently, while making this rant, i saw a user who has been clearly using chatgpt to make the texts in their description. i have no problem with this, but they said in the credits (which also seemed to be ai, i might add), that it had all been written by them. it clearly (at least to me) hadn’t, so if you’re gonna use ai, please say so. it makes things so much easier and simpler. if you can’t speak english well, using chatgpt for things like this is perfectly fine imo. just say so. shutting up people who will slam me for using ai at all yes , generative ai uses water. EVERYTHING uses water. we use water. gasps. according to some quick googling (correct me if I’m wrong), text generating uses around 10ml of water per prompt. that’s 2 teaspoons. it takes around 4 liters of water (about a gallon) to make a pair of jeans. so stop buying jeans if you want to conserve water. it’s simple. ai image generation uses more, about half a liter, which is one of the many reasons why i never use it and don’t support the use of it. also, i already said this, but spending money on chatgpt is plain ridiculous (looking at you, dad) so ty for listening to my very long rant where i didnt call anyone out because im nice! if u really want to know and we actually know each other i might tell u specifically but ion wanna spread hate some of the stuff i said is from pin heh
