During may (start of summer) I got to be the first clarinet player in church. I just played music with the pastor that deals with music and a pianist and then gave music to practice. Sunday: Many months past and it is September and I haven't played my clarinet in church for a while. They underestimate a teen clarinet player I guess. During the beginning of the preaching the head pastor was really enthusiastic about starting a church orchestra and telling people if they play a instrument they can join and then get into the preaching. After church I asked him (with the encouragement from my parents) if I can join and that I am a clarinet player and he said yes and he told me he wanted me to play this Tuesday and I said yes. IT TOOK ME MONTHS TO ASK THE HEAD LEADER TO FINALLY PLAY!!! Tuesday Sept 30th: The day I first played my clarinet in church in front of all people. The song they let me play for my special is "Te loamos, oh Dios!" and I practiced a lot to be ready along with the pianist and it ain't the first time I practiced playing my instrument with a pianist (I played a solo with one back in 9th grade) but the problem is that I have no idea when to start and the pianist is playing on her own tempo but we manage to get things well to play. Once we finished practicing we went back to the place where we listened to preaching and singing. When I got a signal to go up on stage during the prayer I went up as my sister carried my stand with the music and we got to our position and I played; it went well and I did miss a note but continued (natural learned habit from school band) and once I finished playing everyone clapped and cheered. During Tuesday class every girl was congratulating me for my performances and said things like "you played so well!" "I would be so nervous if I was on stage!" and I told them I am really used to practicing and playing on stage in front of many people (performing and playing for judges back in school bands) even one of the girls ask if me her and my sister (she plays the violin and sings in choir) can become a trio which sounds cool, basically for once I have become quite popular for my clarinet (but it will be temporary). after church while my sister and I were waiting for our dad some teen girls approached my sister as I was dissembling my clarinet and when I was done I joined in and they asked me if I can play my instrument with them when they sing for Sunday class and I said sure. On That Sunday I got there early to practice with them but couldn't find them. I asked a teacher and she told me that it is likely it was next Sunday so I put away my clarinet case and music book. after church while I was cleaning the girl came back and said I missed the practice and playing and I told her I did come in time and tried finding them and told her about the teacher. misinformation by a teacher. In both of the days after church people were congratulating me and calling my clarinet a "flute or "trumpet"...or in a worst case a "thing" and while I was waiting in my seat for my special some little girls come and asked about my clarinet and fiddled with the keys. The church people are so clueless about instruments that aren't trumpet or piano, guitar. :(
clarinetist. < the very song I played during the church special.
