The year is somewhere in the 3000s. The Moon, Venus, and Mars have become habitable, and individuals who have amounts of wealth so large that they are incomparable to the billionaires 1,000 years ago are the sole ones living on them, doing whatever they please. The earth has become completely uninhabitable, with near 30% of its surface covered by thick radioactive waste which is a thousand more times dangerous and long-lasting than the Elephant's Foot in Chernobyl, considered to have been one of the most radioactive objects ever. Being an astronaut has become a peasant's job, and their sole mission is to collect resources from material-rich asteroids in order to accelerate the wealth of the uppermost class. You, unfortunately, have not been born into one of these families, but born into a much more common serf job. We say "job" instead of "family" because there is no family, new humans are created from DNA-cloning brain cells, which allows you to already have the memory of how to do your job as soon as you are born. This, genetic alteration, aging medicines, and cybernetics cause you to become as efficient as a 25-year-old worker as early as 8~11 years old. But you don't know this. Ages, as well as time, are not kept track of anymore. The aforementioned cybernetics are cheap to make, but expensive. One is in debt as soon as they are born, and must work to pay it off. Since you actually cared about reading this, your speed increases the more you use the boost. Back to the story. Due to the cheapness of modern robotics, ships frequently break down, leaving people surviving off oxygen tanks, floating in space, with no-where else to go. The uppermost class does not care about them, only the work they can do. And so, rocket ships are tasked with collecting any floating humans they see.
