Turned out it was a substitution cipher, and it was pretty fun to solve. Would've posted this yesterday, but my parents told me to go to sleep. So anyways here you go: Substitutions are as follows: What the game gave us: dlc = the; Therefore: D = T L = H C = E The note also said: I = O K = I T = R R = W W = Y H = K D = T L = H C = E And using a bunch of guesswork, I solved for: X = F S = U F = S Z = G O = N V = D A = V B = C G = L M = A P = M U = P N = B The unsolved ciphers are: Lampost: Zi di dlc lmggrmw kofkvc ix dlc lisfc mov bgkbh dlc diu-tkzld bitoct ix dlc ukbdstc xtmpc. And the solved ciphers are: Lamp post: Go to the hallway inside of the house and click the top-right corner of the picture frame Rat: Things can’t go on like this forever and she knows that. That’s why she brought you here, ???? For the rat, the last bit remains unsolved, because I can't figure out what e is a substitution for. Sorry. But! As you might have guessed, the lamp post gives you instructions for the second ending! Here's what to do: Go into the hallway inside the house with the painting. Click the top right corner of the frame. The painting should become crooked and reveal a pair of eyes. Find all five golden bells. You can get the fifth golden bell from the lamp post, by showing it one of the golden bells you've already found. Give all five bells to the eyes behind the painting, and the key it gives you unlocks the door beside the painting. You should wake up in the snow. Go left until you see the sign, then follow what it says: Go right, then left, and left again. Lunacie should be there. Talk to Lunacie, then read the note beside her. An arrow should appear. Clicking on it triggers the second ending. UPDATE: If instead of going right, left, left, then up the arrow, do that but instead of going up, go left again, which should show you the broken bell. No, this will not lose your ability to achieve ending 2! soap
Hello! Gentle reminder, I don't know what the last letters are, and there are four different possibilities for it. None of them really make sense. I don't think it'll be solved without us being directly told the substitution, or maybe it's not meant to be solved. Maybe it's just a stand in for something else with four letters. I don't know, but please stop spamming me with suggestions! I know you mean the best, and sorry if I sound angry, but please, I'm going to leave the theorising to the mini matpats over there in the Cirque de Cat official studio.
