I just saw a video about Toy Story 5, questioning when it takes place. You may think it takes place next year, when it releases, but it doesn’t when you consider the rest of the movies and when they take place. Toy Story is confirmed to take place during 1995, and in the movie he turns 6. The second movie takes place 3 years later because in 1998, because Andy is 9 in that movie. Then there’s the time skip. Andy is 17 in the third movie, and he’s heading off to college in that movie. Since he turns 6 in the first movie, that means there’s a 12 year gap, meaning Toy Story 3 takes place during 2007. Since Andy’s school year is about to begin during 3 and Bonnie’s school year starts at the beginning of 4, you may think 4 also takes place in 2007, but Bonnie has clearly had the toys for a while so it’s safe to assume it takes place in 2008. The guy who made the video said there’s three options for when 5 takes place, since the iPad released in 2010: 1. The movie takes place 2 years after 4, following Bonnie as one of the first iPad kids. 2. The toys have moved on to a new kid. 3. The writers don’t care. I looked on Wikipedia to see everything we know about the movie, and I found out that Bonnie is 8 years old in the movie. In both Toy Story 3 and 4, Bonnie is 6. This means the movie takes place in 2010. I’m happy about this, since the 2 other options seemed like the safest. It proves the writers actually care. Now all we need is the movie to be good.
