Key and Lock: Chapter Two Finally, after a while of driving around, me, Mom, and Dad stepped out of the car. The wind was blowing hard, and my dumb hair kept getting in my face. My hair is long and ginger, and despite being in a ponytail it still gets in my way. I have pale skin and green eyes. And an obsession with Halloween. It's my absolute favorite holiday, and I mean, who dosen't love dressing up and getting free candy? I also have an obsession with horror books and mysteries. I have all the best horror and mystery books: Smiles, Dead by Dawn, the Mystery of Clock's Bookstore. I like the characters in those books. August Hollows from Smiles, Lacey Dawn from Dead by Dawn, and Elanor Clock from the mystery of clock's bookstore. Even though none of them are real, I like them more than real people my age. Except Vanessa, of course. Anyway, the house standing before me is more scary than all of those books combined. It's like the darker version of a haunted house. It was dark, there were broken windows, shattered glass on the yard (which was infested by weeds) and there was poison ivy growing on a small shed. "I cannot believe I'm living here!" I exclaimed. Mom shot me a look. "Danielle, stop being ungrateful." "Ungrateful? I didn't ask to move to this awful town and leave everything behind! That was all you!" Dad and Mom both glared at me. "Danielle Maria Key! Be quiet this instant!" Dad said. My face burned, but I didn't regret what I said. First they made me move, and now we have to live in this awful house. Dad sighed. "Alright, let's go inside," he said. He opened the door and we all came inside. It wasn't as bad on the inside. It was really big and there was lots of space. It actually looked pretty nice. Of course, there were tons of cobwebs and it was extremely dusty, but it wasn't that bad. And it had an upstairs. I left my parents downstairs, and walked up the stairs. The second floor was actually nice, and I found a huge room that I liked. I threw my backpack I'd brought down on the floor and pulled out my sleeping bag. Then I noticed something glinting in the corner of my new room. I walked over there and picked it up. It was small and golden, and it looked somewhat like a key. Or a part of one. It was probably part of a key, and then this broke off. I should probably have thrown it away, but for some reason I felt like I needed to keep it. I shoved it in my pocket. It probably wasn't important. Sighing, I laid down in my sleeping bag and looked up at the ceiling. I wondered what life here would be like.
