“Are you there? Hello?” A voice called out from the attic Frantic pounding followed. “Brad, Brad, where are you? I can’t hear you counting” It was Brad Smith’s little sister, Alaska. He had locked her in the attic, daring her to escape in less than a minute. “Hello? Can you hear me? Answer me” He didn’t even hear her. He was looking out at the February rain trickling down the window, barely sparing a glance at the attic, when Alaska had snuck out of the attic and snuck up behind him. “Boo!” She yelled, grinning. He turned around and rolled his eyes. “Come on kids, pack for your camping trip tomorrow!” Their dad’s voice carried from the kitchen downstairs. Alaska’s eyes brightened, this was her first time outside in nature for longer than a day. “Cmon get packing sis.” Brad whispered. Brad had already finished packing a few days ago. “I’m done!” Alaska grinned. “So, we will be going to Pinnacles National Park” their dad announced when they were stuffed in the car. “Isn’t that like 267 miles from here? Why are we going there?” Brad asked worriedly “Many caves there” His dad answered Alaska’s eyes widened “caves” She shivered despite the warm car.
