"Wow we actually get to hear about something other than art!" *Clears throat* Hi guys, I decided to write a 'little' paragraph(s) about Art Thieves. Okay, so to start off. Does everyone know what an art theif is? Well I didn't, (lol). I started drawing roughly two or three years ago. And i had no idea what I was doing. I didn't even have a watermark! But of course, with experience comes wisdom. (That is totally me). So after about three years of art I've come across a few tips and helpful suggestions to beginner artists abt art thieves. I think the name is self explanatory but just in case you didn't read the thumbnail, an Art Theif is someone who steals your artwork and often uses it for their own gain. (E.g, more stars and hearts, money, followers, etc.) Just so you know, anyone can screenshot your artwork if it's online. That made me very uncomfortable at first, but you can fix it in a few ways. 1# stop posting art or 2# put a watermark on it Watermarks are basically an artist's signature. It proves that it's their artwork. Ofc it can still be stolen, but if you add a watermark it's easier to not sell and people will notice. So how does an art theif go about stealing art? Well, some people scroll through artwork on the internet and screenshot them, but others are a little sneakier. Personally, I feel flattered when someone requests artwork by me, but their not always honest. @Fun_In_The_Sun_1234 is a good example. Here is how they did it to me. 1# Fun_ (shortened) comments that they would like a piece done of their two characters. I accept. 2# I post (with a watermark) 3# Fun_ comments saying it looks great but cani please remove the watermark so they can print it out? 4# I flat out say no and ask them not to print it. 5# Fun_ deletes their account. 6# someone tells me that Fun_ is an art theif and has stolen pieces. It's easy to see that Fun_ was an art theif, but sometimes, when your commissioned to draw it doesn't look that way. Here a few signs to look out for. Always checkout their profile, if they have an extremely inconsistent art style or various watermarks, then their probably a Theif. If you accept, and they asked to you to draw a character, 1st search online for a similar oc. (E.g green bunny with scales idk) If everything still looks good, and you post the artwork. Look out for remarks like, "can you please remove the watermark, I want to print it out." Or "I really like it! Can you please remove the watermark for a moment, it's blocking the face/ears/etc." simple comments can make it feel like their asking very little but really, their stealing your artwork. I think that's everything, there's sm more info but this project is specifically for Scratch art thieves. Side note- Never ever remove your watermark!! Add two if needed, and don't ever feel as if it's in the way of your piece, put if smack dab in the middle of necessary. Your watermark is part of your art.
Thanks for reading! @Fun_In_The_Sun_1234 is a deleted art theif.
