Preparing complete purge of the system… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Sadie hurt. It wasn’t a describable sensation, not cold or hot, sharp or dull. It just hurt. Slowly, she came to her senses. The first thing she realized was she was limbless. Next, she realized that she didn’t even have a body. The small computer chip sat on a counter in a laboratory. It had obviously been through tough times, as it had rust covering the outside. Contained in this advanced chip was the consciousness of an artificial girl. It sparked as it sent electrical signals throughout, mimicking brainwaves. “Where… am… I?” “It’s… so dark.” Suddenly, a door opened, echoing in the large room. A boy of about 17 years old came into the room, glancing over his shoulder. Before closing the door, he looked both ways to make sure no one was coming, and locked it. His dirty blond hair, sparkling green eyes, and tanned skin made him look like a model. Only the stained lab coat he wore ruined the illusion. He walked over to the table where Sadie's chip lay. A momentary look of panic crossed his face when he saw it sparking. “Oh don’t glitch out on me now,” he groaned. “I’ve been working for so long!” He quickly slipped the chip into a small machine on the desk. He pressed a few buttons and waited. His face fell as he gazed at the numbers on the screen “Oh come on, please don't let it be the central processing unit.” *central processing unit damaged* The robotic voice confirmed his fears. “Of course it is.” Oh joy. Now he had to figure out a way to fix it. There would be long hours ahead of him to restore this AI. He sighed, and began humming a peaceful tune as he got to work. "I won't give up until I get this working. They can't stop me if they don't know I'm here." -Three days later- "I did it! I did it!" The boy grinned widely as the chip was accepted into the device. For days he had been working on a machine that could use the computer chip like one of the realistic android bodies could, but without all the advanced functions that made them seem human, such as pain receptors and limb control. It was as simple as could be while still functioning. The device he had made looked like a miniature tablet. a wide screen projected a single color that would flash when the AI spoke. He had equipped it with a mic, camera and speakers so it could communicate. When his device accepted the chip, he shouted with excitement. taking a deep breath, he tapped the screen. It lit up with a bright blue display. "Hello? He wisped. Can you hear me? My name is Malachi." a few seconds of silence. "Hello, Malachi, my name is... Sadie."
