The Mystery of Clock's Bookstore Chapter One: It all started the day Evangel Clock was walking home from school, her galaxy backpack slung over her shoulder. It had been a tough day at school. Her best friend, Amy, had barely talked to her today, and Evangel didn't know why. She'd gotten a bad grade on her English test, lunch was disgusting, and a group of her "friends" were hanging out after school without her. On the bright side, today was the first day of fall break. She had invited Amy to hang out but Amy was busy with "family stuff". That was the only time she had talked to Evangel all day, and Evangel wasn't sure if they were friends, let alone "best". She sighed. She didn't like the kids at school, not even Amy. And what she saw when she walked around the corner made her dislike Amy even more. Through the glass of a store, Evangel saw Amy and her classmate Nichole shopping and laughing together as they looked around. She felt a flash of anger. "Family stuff" indeed. That liar, Evangel thought. Amy could have at least told her the truth, not lying just so she didn't have to hang out with her. She would have confront Amy, but she could do that after fall break. Evangel turned and walked away. Eventually she arrived at large bookstore with the name "Clock's Bookstore" written across the top in golden letters. This was her family's bookstore. It was owned by her grandparents, Veronica and John Clock. They basically took care of her. Evangel's parents were always traveling for work, so they were barely ever around. And, of course, there was her Aunt Yvette. She was pretty, bilingual, and an author. Evangel had always looked up to her. Anyway, it was mostly just the four of them. She loved living in a bookstore, so it never bothered her. And it never once occurred to her that the greatest mystery of her life would be in a bookstore. Chapter Two: still working on it!
