Music: Rapid Intensification(2020) by Force 13. Hurricane Katrina was one of the most devastating storms in American history. Still, 20 years later, when someone thinks of hurricanes, Katrina comes to mind first. At first it was a normal storm. It hit Southern Florida as a Category 1. Then, while in the Gulf of Mexico, it rapidly intensified to a Category 5, headed towards New Orleans. Many people were ordered to evacuate. Thankfully, Katrina weakened to a Category 3, but it was still massive. While it made landfall, and passed over New Orleans, the levees didn't break. But the storm was so big, the waves kept coming, and the levees eventually broke, flooding the city. Over a thousand people died, and people are still missing to this day. New Orleans was eventually able to rebuild, and improve its levees. Those levees got tested when Hurricane Ida went over New Orleans, but they held. 20 years later, and Katrina is still the most costliest hurricane in US history, as well as one of the deadliest this century.
