Urbosa laughed, “It’s a sand seal, the only way to travel quickly in the desert. The place I want to show you is outside of the city.” Seeing the concern on her new friend’s face, Urbosa continued, “Don’t worry. No Yiga would attack two travelers together; you’ll be safe with me. Now, to ride a sand seal, all you need to do is stand on this shield and hold on. The sand seal will follow my lead. And remember to relax. You’re going to love it! Now, are you ready?” “Not even remotely,” Zelda laughed as Urbosa secured the sand seal’s tether around her waist. “Yah!” Urbosa shouted to her sand seal, and they were off. Urbosa couldn’t help but laugh at the princess’s surprised scream as the sand seal leapt forward and began to pick up speed. As they sped across the dunes, Zelda’s screams gradually turned to laughter. “Who knew that being dragged across the desert by an oversized seal could be so fun!” she shouted over the wind. Urbosa grinned, “I knew you’d like it! Now how about a race? See that lookout tower? Last one there pays for the other’s shopping next time!” “Challenge accepted!” Zelda shouted, “And you’d better hope you win, or you’ll be broke for the rest of your life!” Ultimately, Zelda’s beginner’s luck was no match for Urbosa’s years of experience and the princess arrived at the lookout post several seconds after Urbosa. “What is this place?” Zelda asked as she untied the tether from around her waist. “I’m not really sure, to be honest.” Urbosa replied. “It was built a long time ago as an observation post. To observe what, I’m not sure. It’s been abandoned for as long as I can remember, but it has the best view of the desert that you’ll find anywhere. Here, let me show you.” Urbosa tied her sand seal to a hook on one of the walls and scrambled up a ladder. Zelda followed, and Urbosa could hear her gasp as she saw the view. The sun had just begun to set and its light made the miles and miles of sand glitter like gold. The effect was breathtaking. “I never knew the desert could be so… beautiful.” Zelda whispered. “I used to come out here almost every day before my mother began preparing me to become the next chief.” Urbosa said quietly. “It’s been far too long since I’ve seen this view.” The two sat in silence for several long minutes, simply soaking in the beauty of the moment. As the sun finally began to dip below the horizon, Urbosa stood up. “We should head back before it gets too much darker.” Zelda reluctantly rose and followed her down the ladder. The trip back to Gerudo town was much quieter. They simply rode side by side in companionable silence. As the city gates drew near, Zelda finally spoke. “Thank you, Urbosa, for showing me that view. Sometimes, I get so caught up in my own troubles that I forget why our role as leaders is so important. Hyrule is such a beautiful world. I’ve never felt more honored to be its princess.” Urbosa nodded. “You’re right. It’s amazing how much good a simple reminder can do.” For another moment, silence reigned. Finally, Zelda spoke again, “Perhaps, Urbosa, we can make a commitment. Every time we meet, one of us shall find something to serve as a reminder of why we do what we do, a reminder of the beauty of the land we are privileged to serve.” Urbosa smiled, “An excellent idea, Zelda! I hope I shall not have to wait long to see what you bring." Zelda smiled a smile so radiant that it seemed to illuminate even the shadows of twilight, and in that moment, Urbosa knew that their friendship would not end when the princess left the next day, but would rather last as long as they both lived. “Sav’orq, Zelda!” Urbosa said as the princess headed to her room. “Until next time, Urbosa!” Zelda called back. Continued below!
10 Years Later… “Lady Urbosa,” the guard announced as she stood at attention in front of the throne, “You have a visitor. Shall I show her in?” “Of course,” Urbosa replied, “I’m not busy.” The guard gestured toward the back of the room and a woman rushed forward. “Zelda??” Urbosa cried, rushing forward to embrace the visitor. “I was not expecting you for another three months at least! And besides, you’ve been ill recently, you shouldn’t have made the journey!” “I know, I know, but I couldn’t wait that long. There’s something I have to show you!” Zelda said with barely contained excitement. It was then that Urbosa noticed the basket that her friend carried. “What have you brought this time?” Urbosa asked. Something inside the basket squirmed. Zelda carefully removed a small bundle and handed it to Urbosa. “I believe that I have finally discovered the most beautiful thing to ever grace Hyrule.” Urbosa looked down at the bundle in her hands. A pair of big emerald green eyes stared back at her. Urbosa gasped, “Zelda, you never told me…” The tiny child smiled a smile bright enough to illuminate the room and laughed. Urbosa handed the infant back to her mother. “Isn’t your aunt Urbosa wonderful, Little Bird?” Zelda cooed to the little child with a look of such love in her eyes that Urbosa felt her own eyes become moist. That day, she truly had witnessed the most beautiful thing in all Hyrule. The End! *:・ .ೃ࿐༺♡︎༻࿐.ೃ◌. ・:* Credits: Music: "Gerudo Town" - Nintendo Background: Also Nintendo Story: Zelda-67
