In the U.S. Marine Corps, Private (Pvt) is the lowest-ranking enlisted rank, held by junior Marines who have just completed their initial recruit training. They are often called "boots" or "non-rates" and have no rank insignia on their uniform, earning the nickname "slick sleeve". Privates are responsible for learning the Marine Corps' core values, following orders, and training for their assigned Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) at a School of Infantry (SOI).
