I’m not exactly aerodynamic here!” Kael’s head lolled against the stranger’s shoulder as she carried him across the forest–it was easy to see that she was having difficulty. Wow, who knew my first interaction with a woman was going to end up with her carrying me around like a baby. Well, everyone has a first, he thought, rolling his eyes. “You act like you actually care about a total stranger, but do you really? Come on, seriously! What do you want? Money? Fame? People don’t do kind things for nothing!” He rattled off, squirming as best as he could without success. The girl didn’t answer–didn’t even turn to face him, just kept going. She navigated through the woods like she’d lived there her whole life. Ducking under branches, stepping over roots; it made Kael wonder if she really had spent her whole life here. “Uh… hello? Earth to mysterious forest-carrier girl? How much longer is it until we arrive to… wherever we’re going?” “Be patient. I’m taking you to my house, I’ll try to patch your wounds up. It’s not too far from here,” she said, not even turning to face him while he spoke. Great, going to a stranger’s house, he thought. “Well, uh… thanks, I guess. I’m Kael… by the way.” The girl’s eyes widened, it seemed like not many people actually introduced themselves to her–just let her carry them around like they were the monarchy–or maybe he was the first one that had ever been carried around like a toddler. “I-I’m Mara,” she said. Who knew I was gonna meet a stranger before I learnt where the heck I was, he thought, looking forward to see that slowly; the trees were disappearing. “So uh… do you carry everyone you meet around, or do I have the privilege of being the first..?” Mara chuckled. “I wouldn’t call it a ‘privilege’, but yeah. You’re the first I’ve seen fall from the sky–at least for a long time. Oh, we’re here!” Kael looked forward to reveal a lighthouse at the top of a rocky beach. The fresh smell of seaweed and ocean water got inside his nose and stayed there. Kael whistled, “Nice house ‘ya got here, probably filled with some good things. Wouldn’t it be a shame if someone stole them,” Kael said, limping towards the lighthouse as fast as he could. “What?! No! It’s my house!” Mara exclaimed, lunging forward. Kael and Mara grappled and pushed each other in an attempt to get into the house before the other. Kael threw himself into the couch. “As the rightful winner, I claim this couch!” Mara crossed her arms, “Rightful winner, huh? We’ll see about that,” Mara said, smirking. Kael groaned. “Fine, but the couch is mine!” He flopped sideways, just to feel excruciating pain all over his body; he couldn’t help but scream. “Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I’ll go see if there are any healing supplies at the nearby town.” Great, healing exists now. What kind of dumb DnD campaign is this? And why does everyone treat the wings like they’re normal?! Kael thought, trying to stand up to ask Mara. “Oy, Mara!” Silence. The lighthouse was empty.
