A moon-dappled pool stood in a field of swaying grass. It was alone except for five cats, pelts shimmering with stars. They sat in total silence like statues in the night. Suddenly, a brown she-cat stepped forward. "Thank you for joining me on such short notice," she said quietly. "You may be wondering why I have called you here-" "Yes, yes we are." growled a pale gray tom. "Actually, WiIdthorn, I believe you admitted yourself that you do not possess rank enough to call any meetings of the StarClan council." "This is an emergency," Wildthorn argued. "Like what?" a ginger tom said. "I don't mean to be rude, but the last time you said something was an 'emergency', nothing happened and you embarrassed the whole of our Clan." "I had a vision, Firefoot!" she burst out. After a gasping breath, she whispered, "I'm positive." Skycloud sniffed but said nothing. Wildthorn continued. "In the beginning, river, wind, thunder, shadow, and sky all worked together to create weather. Sometimes we had rain, sometimes we had sun, sometimes in between. It kept a perfect balance." "So what? If everything is right, what's the point?" Skycloud interrupted. "I was about to get to that," she said. "After I saw them cooperating, something...else crept in. Ivy came. It started with the river, polluting all the water so no one could drink or fish in it. Then, it headed for every Clan, covering and destroying all in its path. I think this warning should be heeded." She spoke with reverence, though her voice shook. It was clear her dream had worried her. Willowtail sighed. "If I did believe you," she said. "What would this mean for the clans?" "That's the thing," breathed Wildthorn. "I don't know." Without warning, Skycloud meowed angrily, "If that's all you've got, it's not worth it to try. I'm leaving." he said, lashing his tail. "I'm sorry, but me too." said Firefoot. "I think we can at least wait a bit until it's meaning is clearer." Whiteshade, a white tom, came forward. "I know I've been quiet for most of this meeting. As I listened to each argument..." Wildthorn braced for rejection. "...I think Wildthorn is right. This sign should definitely be at least heard." "Well, I heard, and I'm leaving." Skycloud stalked away. *Wait! No, please don't go...* thought Wildthorn in despair, but he was already gone, and so was Firefoot. Willowtail looked at the place the two toms had disappeared, then at the remaining two, then back at the exit. *Sorry,* she mouthed and left. Whiteshade and Wildthorn sat in silence for a moment. Then Wildthorn said, "Prepare for the gale." Whiteshade nodded and shared a look with Wildthorn. The gaze held for a moment, then Whiteshade left. But Wildthorn knew she had one ally, at least. The prophecy had begun.
