This is my first day actually interacting with River. The first couple days I had her, I just let her get comfortable on her own. she seems to be very independent, so i figure she would like to figure things out on her own rather than having me figure them out for her. So I went inside the pen and just stood by the fence for a little. She approached me over a time of 10 minutes, before she ran bucking away. the next time she approached me she took a shorter time and actually touched my hand. she did buck off, but not as much as the first time. she was more willing to approach me later that day when I came back the second time. I did a little bit of almost like sorta lunging, but only using my body language to communicate to her. it’s really hard to explain, but if she tried going in one direction i turn and focus on her shoulder and she will move as she feels the pressure I focus there. (go read books on this, it’s useful for training and connecting to your horse in real life, helps them know that you won’t hurt them and are the leader. and also can begin good exercises that are beneficial to riding and groundwork later) and when i was done for the day, I got her to be comfortable coming up to me, and let me touch her a little bit on the neck and nose. I left a halter tied up on the fence so she could look at it and get used to the idea of a halter before i put it on her and other stuff.
