“..Hey, seacat?” “Hm?” It had been a few weeks of this now, of the same routine. Fire-Lilykit would fall asleep, and would wake up in the same dream. The same mountain forest clearing, with the same midsummer night air gently blowing through her fur, the same fireflies rising from the swaying grass. The same wedgewood blue seacat with kind turquoise eyes. It was strange, Fire-Lily didn’t think dreams were supposed to be this.. Real feeling, but hey, what did she know. Dreams were just dreams, after all, and no matter how real they felt, they would always be just that: dreams. Figments of her imagination. This clearing was just a product of her mind, and so was the seacat. And still… “What’s your name?” Fire-Lily watched how the seacat blinked in surprise. “My name?” He repeated, and the hybrid kit nodded. “Yeah. Your name.” Fire-Lily repeated. “What is it? Do you have one?” “Well of *course* I have a name, silly.” The seacat chuckled, shaking his head. “Everyone has a name.” “Then what’s yours?” And once again, that strange silence fell over the two of them. The same silence whenever Fire-Lily’s questions seemed to hit too close (could they even hit too close for a dream-cat?). Fire-Lilykit had long since learned in the little time since she’d been having the dreams that when that silence fell, she wasn’t getting an answer. Maybe it was her mind, unable to formulate the answers. The flaws in the illusion. “Fine.” She huffed with an amused air. “Keep your secrets, but at least give me something to call you so I’m not calling you ‘seacat’ all the time.” The seacat’s ears perked slightly. “Well..” He paused for a moment, looking into the far-off distance, though when Flily turned her gaze she couldn’t see anything but trees and mountains. “..Seaca-?” “Epi.” Fire-Lily blinked, not quite expecting to get an answer. The seacat, Epi, sighed before turning back to look at Fire-Lily with a smile, though Flily could see how it didn’t quite reach his eyes. How odd. “You may call me Epi.” What an odd name to find in her dreams. Had she heard the name before somewhere? Probably, why else would the dream-cat call himself that? Fire-Lily shrugged it off, returning the smile. “Alright then, Epi it is.” After all, it was all just a dream. It wasn’t like any of this mattered anyways..
