✧˚₊· special report ✦ introduction ✦ hey guys, its danielle. today's article is a special report, which means it's going to be a little more different than what i usually write on this account. today's report is going to be on mass reporting, which as of lately has become a widespread issue and plagued the community. let's dive in. ✦ section 1: overview ✦ ⊹ what is mass reporting ⊹ why is it harmful ⊹ scratch team ⊹ spop's history with scratch tos ⋆。゚ ✦ what is mass reporting ✦ mass reporting is a phenomenon here on scratch, that can also exist on other platforms, where a group/singular person will report a project in order to get it removed. there is an automated threshold that removes projects once it reaches a certain amount of reports. people use this as a way to practice censorship or to bully others. ✦ why is it harmful ✦ mass reporting is extremely harmful as it weaponizes a system that is made to protect users, creating a stressful environment for both moderation and people who utilize the platform. this can also lead to loads of lying, where a user might be banned for breaking the rules, but claim that they were mass reported in order to bypass the rules and appeal. this can also overshadow actual bad content, with actual reports being taken less seriously due to the oversaturation of false reporting. ✦ scratch team ✦ scratch team (moderation) has a reputation of being not-so-good at moderating the website, which common complaints, such as 1. vague community guidelines there is a lack of clarity on what ACTUALLY breaks the rules here on scratch very often 2. unfair bans/suspensions accounts can face consequences for trivial reasons, and these are usually on accident rather than on purpose. 3. poor appeal system appeals usually take an unnecessarily long amount of time to be seen, and it usually drives the user to anger, in which they will receive a response. 4. inconsistent enforcement rules are applied VERY inconsistently, which leads to accusations of favoritism or hypocrisy. ✦ spops history with scratch tos ✦ in the early 2020's, spop emerged and grew through the creation of a kpop roleplay. but spop does have a long history of breaking scratch tos. - conflicts with "honesty" and "respect" policies spop unfortunately takes part in a lot of problematic behavior, which includes misrepresentation and impersonation. when it comes down to it, compared to other KCA comms on the internet, we are limited, but we can try out best to lift eachother up, prevent things like this from happening, and remain aware. thank you for reading. - danielle ✦ credits ✦ thumb by ✧ thumb: yeri (red velvet) ⋆。゚
