Christian traveled for days. He does not stop moving. His mind works to find ways to be accepted home. The young prince enters a thick forest. Large trees tower over him, blocking most sunlight. Small, green tinted beams of light manage to sneak past the leaves. Christian steps over the brush and undergrowth, barely paying attention to his surroundings. Christian heaves a deep, weary sigh. He wanders deeper into the forest. However, the sudden sound of voices reaches his ears, catching his attention. “My APOLOGIES, your MAJESTY,” someone mocks, irritation clear in their voice. Another person grunts in frustration. “Stop calling me ‘your Majesty’!” Christian peers through overgrown bushes, pushing aside leaves. Revealed before him are two knights. One blue, clothed in golden, eye-catching armor, holding the fabled talking sword Caliburn. The other black and red, dressed in traditional knightly armor, wielding the legendary sword Ddraig Goch. Former King Sonic, Knight of the Wind, and his most loyal knight Sir Lancelot. They do not seem on the best terms now, however. Suddenly, a loud roar breaks Christian’s awed trance. An Aerolion, a gigantic lion with feathery wings, swipes at the knights. The knights dodge with skill. “Ey, Lance?” Lancelot scowls. “How many times must I remind thou? Do not call me that…” “You called me ‘your Majesty’,” Sonic retorts, smirking in mock amusement. “Anyways, we could use some of your ‘famous’ precision.” Lancelot grunts, raising his famed sword. However, he does not strike, nor does he move. The Aerolion paces, watching the two knights as if deciding which might make a better supper. Sonic gives Lancelot a look, curious about his fellow knight’s hesitation. Lancelot lowers his sword slightly, looking into the bushes. In a quick flash of light, he teleported. Before Christian can react, Lancelot pushes him away, just barely saving him from the crushing paw of the Aerolion. The knight glares, standing, brushing dust from his armor. “What possessed thee to wander into the midst of battle?” “Hmph,” Christian grunts, annoyed. “I was not aware of this… situation…” “The more the merrier,” Sonic grins, running fast as the wind itself as he slashed the Aerolion with his sword. The large beast snarls, chasing the Knight of the Wind as a cat chasing a mouse. Sonic chuckles, rolling into a ball. In a blur of blue light, he hits the winged lion. The Aerolion surrenders its pursuit, limping back into the forest. “That’ll teach it not to mess with us,” Sonic laughs triumphantly. Lancelot sighs deeply in exasperation. “Who are thou?” The two knights turn to the young prince. Christian smirks. “My name is Christian, prince of Zion,” he says with full confidence. “The knave who earned banishment by the hand of his own father? What pathetic luck…” Lancelot comments, earning a scowl from the young lion. Sonic scratches the back of his quills. “What’s Zion?” “My home, my kingdom. The ally to Camelot,” Christian mutters, rolling his eyes. “How’d you get banished?” “I wish I knew. I do not find any trouble in having fun, despite my father’s rules… I have done nothing wrong,” Christian answers, as innocent as he can muster. Lancelot scoffs, walking back into the trees. “Such lies from a blunt prince…” With a final confused glance at Christian, Sonic rushes off after his fellow knight. The prince follows them, staying an appropriate distance from the two. The knights venture deeper into the forest.
