Rowan held the umbrella over us with one hand and gripped my hand with his other. Puddles splashed up at us with each step we took. My body shook from the cold and I tried to focus on how warm his hand was. "Sorry about the rain." He apologized. "I know it kind of ruined our plans." "It's okay." I gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. "You couldn't have known about the rain." The silence that ensued was painful, until I got an idea. "I have an idea!" I exclaimed out loud. "Come on!" I yanked his arm toward the direction I wanted to go. He smiled. "Ah-ha! Another famous idea from Sadie. Alright, let's hear it." I tugged again on his arm to get him to follow me, but he shook his head. "Nope. I'm not going with you until I hear your idea." I closed the distance between us and stood on my tip toes to look him in his eyes. "C'mon Rowan. Trust me." "I do Sadie. You know that." I gave him a knowing look. "Fine. Lead me away!" He dramatically put a hand on his chest. I rolled my eyes. "Sometimes you're so weird I don't know whether I want to punch you or hug you." "I prefer the latter." "I'm sure you do." I stood on my toes again and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug. "Now come on!" After a few minutes, we reached our destination. "An abandoned building and an overgrown parking lot?" He furrowed his brow. "Why here?" He asked as I dragged him across the street toward the parking lot. "I was wondering if we could..." I paused, hoping the that idea didn't sound too childish. "Dance in the rain." As soon as the words left my mouth, he dropped the umbrella, wrapped his hands around my waist. I put my hands on his chest, and leaned into the warmth. He kissed the top of my head. "There's no one I'd rather dance with than you." Rowan whispered into my ear, water dripping from his nose. We swayed to the inaudible song. But I could hear the rhythm so clearly. The beat. The tune. No words. But I understood. It was my song. And it was my time to write the lyrics to the song of my life. Standing in the rain, cold and shivering together. A memory that would stay with me forever. Our song.
