A kiss in grief - 8 - Gribeans Notes: I forgot to do notes on the last one oops. take much angst. ----------------------- Joel had been gone for hours. Now normally this wouldn't have worried Grian. If it had been a normal session day, Joel would've probably been out getting himself some kills. But it was not a normal session day. There were days in between sessions, when the clock didn't tick and no one lost any time. Today was one of those days. But it wasn't just that, because last session Jimmy had- (Yellow feathers, minecarts, slipping, falling, falling down and down and down and-) Jimmy was gone. And so, of course Grian was worried. She needed to find Joel. ---- Grian walked into a room. It was down on the ground, far from skynet, and it's where they had buried (their friend, partner, teammate, bad boy) Jimmy. Joel was there. "...Joel." She said quietly. "Go away." "You've been gone for hours." Grian said, moving to stand beside him. "I was worried." "Well, you know where I am now, so go away!" Joel snapped. He was sitting with his legs clutched to his chest, face buried in his arms so that Grian couldn't see it. Neither of them said anything. Grian did not move from his spot. Joel didn't either. Finally, Grian sat down. "I was hoping we could keep him in just a little longer." She said sadly. Joel made a choked noise. "Don't-" "..." He did not reply. Time passed. Things did not feel quite real to Grian. But... "The next session is going to start soon." He said softly. "We need to prepare." "Prepare, right." Joel raised his face from his arms. His eyes were red. Grian stood up, dusting himself off. She took a long look at the grave, then turned to Joel. "Come on, we should really go," "I know." Joel stood up as well. They began to walk towards the exit. Partway through, Joel stopped him. "Can we-?" He asked. Grian obligied, leaning in and pressing a kiss to Joel's lips. There is nothing she could do about Jimmy now, no matter how much she wished he was still there. But, he resolves, he is going to keep Joel safe, no matter what it takes. (Grian was not looking. He heard a shout and a thwang of a bowstring. There is a crash of lightning that illuminates the pillar. The voices cut, Grian looks up, and Joel is gone.) ( Joel is gone . )
