Storm and I started towards the show grounds. That morning had been spent vigorously grooming her so that her grey coat shone. Now as we approached the ring, my excitement rose. A whole bunch of people were crowding around a girl and her horse. I walked over to see what the big deal was and saw that that girl was leading a black thoroughbred that looked like it had cost $50,000. I gasped in astonishment. Then the announcer called me to the ring. I mounted Storm, and instead of the elated feeling I had felt only moments before, I was starting to feel nervous. Storm nickered and tugged at the reins, telling me to get my head in the game. The buzzer sounded and we were off like lightning. I took the turn with breakneck speed, hoping to get a good time, and a clean round. The first blue, red and white striped jump rose ahead of me. I timed our jump and felt my spirits lift as Storm flew over the jump. For a second, the world stopped. The crowd grew silent, everyone disappeared, and it was just Storm and me. When we landed, I urged Storm on. Nothing mattered except me and Storm. Even the black thoroughbred wasn’t on my thoughts anymore. As one, we finished the course. When they announced the winners, I was happy to know that we got 2nd out of 50 people.
It's not very long, I just remembered about it. I was caught up in homework and studying for my exams so it didn't have that much work put into it. I should get the participation prize though. I'm not holding my breath for anything more
