Orca looked over at the cave exit. Still snowed in, as they had been for two weeks already, with no sign of it clearing up. She was struggling to decide, her group needed to eat soon, she had to pick who would have to be an unfortunate sacrifice to save her group. She looked over at Parrot, a RainWing who had been extra snappy since the snow in. She decided he would be the one. The next morning before anyone else woke up Orca slipped into Parrots cave. Swiftly she pinned his snout shut, her hind talons quickly pinning him down in place. He woke suddenly, trying to thrash to no avail. Her free front talon grabbed a syringe. "Sorry Parrot. But the group must eat." She hissed quietly as she eased the tip into his neck. His eyes stared into hers, full of betrayal before they began to flicker shut. He fought to stay awake but couldn't fight it any longer and slipped under the blanket of sleep again. Orca dragged him to the feast room but didn't strap him to the table. Instead she hauled him to a pair of chains with multiple hooks on each. She lowered the chains to make her job easier and took one of the chains. She took the largest hook and shoved it into his side under his arm, he winced but remained unconscious. She took the next hook, pushing it up into his lower jaw, once raised it would keep his head high and jaw shut. The last hook was inserted into his wrist carefully to avoid hitting any veins then pushed into his side. This was to hold his arms at his sides. She repeated on the other side and raised the chains. Parrot blinked awake as he was hung. The hooks held him up, his arms straight against his side, his head at a perfect 90° angle from the ground and jaw tightly shut. His hind talons dangled limply, mere inches from the ground. Orca cut his wings off, earning a wince and she sighed. "I apologize again Parrot. But it must be done." She said. The group began to wake. Parrot appeared to be mildly floating, standing at perfect attention, his eyes darted nervously, tears hanging in their corners. The group gathered quickly, seeing Parrot. "As you all know, this is not a sacrifice of fate, but one of courage. This brave volunteer has decided to give his life so we can survive this snow in." Orca said. As she spoke Parrot began to cry more, realizing the 'volunteers' in years past were not actually martyrs but pawns. Orca took a syringe, emptying it into his neck. The group believed it made it painless, numbing the brave volunteer, it simply made him limp as any other dragon they slaughtered. Orca cut into his side, beginning to butcher him as if a prized cow. He couldn't speak, couldn't struggle at all as she tore him apart. Orca cut off his hind legs, then his shoulders, then cut out his ribs, divvying him up as if rations, he /was/ rations. Blood dripped to the floor as his vision blurred. Orca looked over at him as he began to fade away, she showed no sorrow or remorse. Finally as he was dying he understood; this group was nothing but brainwashed followers to a monster. Seeing that he was still alive she walked over, slowly pushing the blade into what was left of his neck, he gave a weak gurgle as red bubbles erupted from the hole she made in his windpipe before he finally died. She finished the job and began eating with her group who blissfully believed that he had been willingly and painlessly given up for them. Only she knew the truth.
