I didn’t see it at first. The way it shined, how it almost looked like there were stars within. It’s probably easier not to notice, like most things in life, but this, this was no problem at all. It was almost as if it were… magical. Until I fell too deep. It all started on a summer trip to my uncle and aunt’s house. Going to the old, overgrown house in the middle of nowhere (Oregon) was a completely normal, annual trip. Since my parents are always busy with whatever business they have, after 8 years old, I made the trip there myself. The journey is easy. It normally consists of a 2-hour plane ride to Portland International, an hour and half train ride to Albany, an hour long taxi ride to Scio, and then another hour taxi ride to my aunt and uncle’s place. It might seem like a long, completely useless journey, but for me, it was always worth it. Though the house is filled with many wonders and interesting old things that can only be identified by my great grandparents' old souls, there was one thing that always had me enthralled. My whole life at the house, my childhood, my playground, was nothing more than the library. Every year, I would count the days to when I’ll get to step foot in the library again. Books lined every wall, the spines faded and worn over the years with love but mostly just negligence. No one in the house actually read the books, and I’m sure I was the only person who actually stepped foot into the room. Sometimes my aunt would, but that was usually just to ask me a question about her phone, computer, the tv, or to make sure I was still alive. I would usually spend my days looking at the spines along the walls, drawing in my beloved sketchbook, or taking naps on the rocking chair. Just like every year before. I liked things without much change. When I saw it, it seemed like nothing at first. But then it changed. It might seem like I'm just spewing words, but it had changed. It was the same, but different in a way I couldn't put my finger on. It had always been in the library, too. It just... never changed like it had.
