Like any normal teenager would do, I stared at it longer, like I was begging for it to change again. Then it did, but it didn't just change itself, it had changed the whole room. The world around me had flashed in a blink. It was so quick I didn't even see what changed, but something was different. And it was wonderful. The type of excitement a kid gets when they start opening birthday gifts, but it just felt better. The feeling of my world changing, spinning, sparkling? It was all just so addicting. So I kept on staring at it, hoping my world would change again. My life wasn't really something you would call, well, enjoyable. My parents were always gone, working usually, and I was always just a small thought at the back of their mind. I didn't have many friends, either, and that's usually because I spent all my free time studying. If I wasn't studying, I was at my uncle and aunt's place. School was always torture. It felt like a prison, but eventually, I just got used to it. Compared to my usual life, me getting to change this world into my own, even if it were for a fraction of a second, well, it was the most liberating thing I've ever felt. So I kept on doing it. Changing, creating. It lasted longer than before, not by much, but still, longer. And it only got better. When I kept on pushing the boundaries, the time frame just got longer. A second, a few, ten. I had almost gotten to a minute when I heard a knocking on the door. I turned my head around, looking to the door. My eyes felt strained when I looked away from the one thing in life I feel free with. "Quinn, dinner will be ready soon," my aunt had said through the door. I snapped back to reality when I first heard my name. I whipped my head around the room, searching for something, frantic. I just didn't know what.
