Forum version: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/721861/?page=9#post-8710956 Excerpt: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1214366998/ ~ Hi, everyone, and welcome to my November '25 SWC (co)leader application! Honestly, I'm insanely surprised I managed to get all the stuff I wanted to for this done by the deadline because sophomore year has genuinely been crazy- But we got there! Anyway, before I begin rambling too much, here's how to use this: 1. Hover over the album covers to see what slides will be there, and click on it to access them! 2. To move forward, click the right side of the screen or hit your spacebar or right arrow key. The slides will automatically close when you've reached the end of them. 3. To go backward, click the left arrow key or the left side of your screen! 4. To get from one set of answers to the next (screen one and screen two, I mean, in case I'm not making sense), click the bar at the bottom! And that's about it for using it! Hopefully it's pretty straightforward, but let me know if you've got questions <3 I started working on this back in May, I think, when I started recording covers (my first two were Edge and an initial version of Risk, the latter of which I later replaced because I got a slightly better version) of my arrangements of songs I love! These are just a few of them, mostly with the easier chords, because it's been really hard to find a time where it's quiet and suitable to play and record. For this reason, I kind of just ended up recording like half of these in my free blocks on the school pianos, so there may be background noise in these, and when I recorded them at home, you'll hear all the birds and whatever, haha- Anyway! If I don't say otherwise, it's safe to assume that these were my compositions based on the chords of various Ultimate Guitar chord transcribers (or whatever you call them). I played these all by ear, so my timing and notes/key may be slightly off, but I've done my best! Still kind of learning, as I'm not at all a spectacular pianist—though I aspire to one day be one—but I had fun with this, and I think that's what counts. ~ Word count: 2,703 words (including bonus question) ~ Notes: • I recorded most of these in parts largely because I was playing by ear and not writing down the notes and stuff for myself, and I prettyyy much learned the chords and stuff right before I started playing the pieces in most of these cases—either that or I had been relearning them. I've tried to edit out the glitch-sounding parts to the best of my ability, but I'm not super familiar with how to work GarageBand and all the fancy editing stuff at the moment, so my mixing of these pieces definitely leaves something to be desired. Oh, well! Next time. • I realized, as I do triannually, that I cannot art. I initially intended to do a line of sheet music with the different notes, but that didn't quite happen. As it turns out, I also struggle with drawing DOTS AND LINES digitally. I have reached a new low. But, hey, I think my last-minute solution is not terrible? • I did all the coding for this in two days, so it might not be perfect, but please let me know if you find a major glitch so I can try and fix it! ~ Credits: Huge thank you to Cat, Chocolate, and Vicky for their critiques! I really appreciate it <3 Thank you to everyone who wrote these songs, arranged the scores for them, and found chords for them—I have so much respect for everyone here. (See notes and credits section below) Thank you to the three piano teachers I’ve had over the years for taking the time to teach me, even when I really hated it for like. A solid eight years. I hope you all know that I’m really thankful I stuck with it. Thank you to my parents, mostly my mom, though, for kind of forcing me to start piano. Thank you to all people—past, present, and future—who make SWC what it is Thank you for taking the time to read/look at/listen to all the stuff in here, because it’s kind of a real trainwreck of a leader application, but it means so much to me that you’re here anyway. <333
About Me • healing hurts x you’d never know (mashup) • BLÜ EYES Mashup!! Obviously, I had to include a BLÜ EYES song in here, because it would be wrong not to. This idea came to me as I was about to go to sleep one night this summer and was just thinking about them. Based on the Ultimate Guitar chords, which I then mixed and transposed a little. I’ve been learning that I have no idea how to use GarageBand, so my sincere apologies for the little tempo switch (that was the second day of recording-) because I don’t really know how to fix a bunch of this stuff. Experience • counting houses • Luz Aaa, so I cannot tell you how happy I was to see that there was a free score of this- It genuinely made my day so much. Anyway! I improvised this a little bit and recorded it in parts over the course of one morning at home. So much fun and such a good song!! Cabin Preferences • Edge • Gracie Abrams I released a cover of this one a little while ago, but I figured I would go full piano for this one since I hadn’t actually played this one yet. Writing Excerpt • she’s all i wanna be • Tate McRae I’m not actually a Tate McRae fan, but I do like the acoustic version of this song. I did an initial version of this for one of my friends, who is a big fan, but then rerecorded it for better quality and stuff at school one day. Time Dedication • Alicia • Lorien Testard GUYS, HAVE I MENTIONED THAT I LOVE CLAIR OBSCUR? Because I do. My dad sent me the piano score for this, arranged by Caliko, and I love it so much, oh my goodness. I had the best time learning to play this. It’s so dramatic and great! Update (October 9th): I have changed the piano cover of this one to one I did yesterday evening in one night rather than across two. Ignore my mistakes (no editing on this), but it was really fun to do. You can still access the earlier cover in the project! Time Management • Lost River • Cœur de Pirate Over the summer, I got really into Cœur de Pirate, and I bought her music book for Perséides. This is one of my favorite ones to play, and although I know the left hand bit is slightly too loud, I had so much fun with this. Collaboration • Rockland • Gracie Abrams I’m forever disappointed that I did not get to play the overlapping vocals part in the bridge, but I suppose this will have to do. This is (I think) the only one of these that I recorded in the U.S. when I was there for the summer, and it was definitely on the nicest piano—our church’s grand piano. It was so cool to play. Reason for Applying • Risk • Gracie Abrams For some reason, I actually like playing this song better than I like listening to it? It’s just so dramatic as well, and I always have a great time playing it! I’ve been playing this one for months, so of course it went in here. Anyway, based on the chords and stuff in a piano score that I forgot the artist of (sorry), but improvised slightly by yours truly. Cabin Atmosphere • Fear of Water • Noah Kahan I love Noah Kahan’s stuff so much, and since this one seems to be piano based, I figured, Why not? So here we are with a little tiny cover of Fear of Water, also done at school. Recording is easier at school because then I don’t have to tell my family to be quiet. Checkboxes & More • Stitches • Shawn Mendes The last one I recorded! This was kind of a last minute decision, but I realized that I actually didn’t have any Shawn Mendes in this, so I figured that since the chords are easy for Stitches (and a lot of people know it), it would be a good choice. Bonus Question • Close to You • Gracie Abrams OKAY, so Close to You was initially one of my favorite Gracie songs (still is, by the way, but that’s beside the point), and I’ve just loved playing the chords for this in general because they’re easy, and it’s just a fun song in general! Credits • Off to Sleep • Cœur de Pirate It seems only fitting that I end the credits with this. After all, in Child of Light, another video game I love, it’s the ending song as well. It’s so pretty, and honestly, it’s really what got me into Cœur de Pirate in the first place. It’s genuinely so nostalgic to me.
