as matian government drifted toward a new form of government involvement, conservatives would rise up in a rebellion against the more liberal government. they would destroy government buildings, attack loyalists, vandalize property, and attack officials and soldiers. soon special ops divisions would be sent to quell the rebels. (Inspired by 1930's politics (the non-conservative part)) these efforts would be successful, as the rebels would be pushed back and even some loyalists would rise up in militias as they would see a chance to strike against those who had wronged them. the rebels still have lasted in the eastern frontier and still persecute loyalists in the area.
